The best NPG Band ever. I beleive Prince himself has said that his favorite group of NPG players was the mid 1990's group (94-95?).
What do you think was the best NPG and were they comparable to say, The Revloution or any other 80's Prince group? ________________________________________

i think the 1995 npg was his best band ever. the band he has now is cool too though. but i will always miss the npg from "95"

His best band IMHO was the'95 NPG. I would point to some of the aftershows in Spring '95 (Emporium, Paradiso, etc.) as well as the Summer '95 Paisley Park shows as his greatest live period ever.
The Lovesexy/SOTT band would be a close second, but if you listen to the variety/range of songs that the NPG played during those dozen-or-so shows that summer, it will blow your mind. I still think Sonny T was his best bass player ever, and I'm not yet convinced that JB is necessarily better than Michael Bland. No Candy 4 Me

yep, the '94, '95 NPG were the tightest. Michael B. and Mr. Hayes held that band together. Sonny and Tony Barbarella weren't slouches either.
The '94 birthday show is great and some of the aftershows a little later are awesome too. gosh, i miss that band. prince could just wail with them behind him. it's never been the same since. especially without michael b. ----- kisses are like tears. the only real ones are the ones you can't hold back.

As far as NPG goes, I agree with most of you about the mid-90's version being the best.
But I think my all time favorite line-up was the SOTT/Lovesexy band. Just Eric Leeds alone brought a LOT to the table & I miss seeing him jamming with Prince.

XTrueX, I feel ya. I just like the personality of that band. Prince has got a great shot of the NPG band that everyone likes hung up in his pool table room\loft at Paisley. ________________________________________

As Rhonda Smith said, the bands are ever-evolving like a big family. You never know who will show up or will come back.

micorison said: Absolutely: Michael B, Tommy Barbarella, Mr. Hayes, Sonny T...essentially, The Beautiful Experience band, the mid-'90's NPG. That is the absolute best the band was ever.I truly miss Mr. Hayes,It would have been a joy to have talked to him at a soundcheck. But alas he is not in the band but where is he???
