"With This Tear" This is one of the few Celine Dion songs that I love and I know it was written by Prince, but do ya'll think that Prince would have done a better job performing this song than Celine? From what I was told by another Prince fan, Prince never sang the song. He just wrote the song and sent it to her. SPREAD LOVE UNTIL THE SUN'S FINAL RISE--The Duality a.k.a. "WYNTER SKYE"

Personally I think anything Prince is better than Celine, so I'm anxious to hear the original if it's out there.
Anybody heard a Prince version in existence? As long as it's not a duet.

Well, she might tone it down a bit, because she did that duet with Peabo Bryson, "Beauty and the Beast", and it sounded good. SPREAD LOVE UNTIL THE SUN'S FINAL RISE--The Duality a.k.a. Shame is, it's Celine we're talking about and I've never really seen somebody that's so quick to thump her chest and go over the top tone it down when it's needed. Maybe she'd be more respected/tolerated if she wasn't having to be Celine and have so many songs that use the same tricks. That and that damn Titanic song.

For me at least, not speaking for Estelle-back then when it came out and I was younger and knew less about music, it was pretty good. Granted I liked Peabo's voice more than hers, but-given the musical fiasco Celine's turned into-back then-for her, not so bad. Now I just about scream and run like hell whenever I hear her voice. Again, that's now.

i am afraid i will have to say Celine.
i saw her do a killer performance of it on Oprah with everyone crying because it was so emotional. i don't think Prince could have done it so powerful. he would have done it different, but this was just perfect. yes SIR!

I think some of you are judging Celine and "With This Tear" based on her reputation and career NOW...
...if you think about it, our tendency to be annoyed by her ability to vocally overpower a song was not really a factor in her career until the album that came out right AFTER the self-titled album that contained "With This Tear." In perspective, I think that Celine's performance of this particular song was genuinely gorgeous, emotional, heart-felt, etc. It keeps the focus on the emotion of the lyric and the words themselves. While future Celine recordings would be "about Celine," it is my opinion that this particular one was about the song, not her. I love it! I think Prince wrote it for a woman to sing, not him. I don't know why we have to have a Prince version of everything...sometimes a female voice is a better choice when he's written a song in that frame of mind. Keith/Kacey
