John Blackwell is Prince's drummer. In June, his 2-year-old daughter Jia drowned in the family's pool. Fellow musicians, family and friends are putting their talents together for a memorial concert. It's August 31st at Keenan Theater at 7:00pm. Tickets cost between $11 and $15 and can be purchased at any Sounds Familiar. Several local groups are scheduled to perform including Straight Ahead, Fat Back & the Groove Band, Robert Newton, Intrigue and three gospel groups. In addition to being sold at Sounds Familiar locations, tickets will also be sold by each band. According to the promoter, all of the money raised is going to the Jia Blackwell Foundation which is currently being set-up to promote child safety awareness. Could a sober person even have fun at this show? It's great the Blackwells are doing this, but it's so sad. I get teary eyed every time I think about the horrible tragedy they're going through.
I think I'd buy a ticket to help their cause and wouldn't actually show up at the show. Luv & Peace, Alex Clubbin' in Mpls/A Night w. Prince | |
