I think AMERICA is 1000 times better than THE UNITED STATES OF DIVISON America is better out of the two...I dont know if anyone has done the comparison between the two yet, if they have, I apologize for posting this thread. America is funky, the lyrics are tight, the energy of the song is just wonderful. When I hear TUSOD, I shudder. I actually shudder! Im sure the song had good intentions but unfortunately it has a bad sound.
AMERICA AMERICA...God shed his grace on theeee...AMERICA AMERICA...keep the children freeee [This message was edited Tue Aug 17 11:47:05 2004 by CherrieMoonKisses] &

Its all pretty subjective. So u don't like the song. It makes u shudder, which is pretty silly anyway. The type of songs prince makes are NEVER going to sound like what he did 20 yrs ago, why compare? The technology is different, the mindframe is different, the concerns are different. Prince cannot re-create America any more than he could have written USOD back then. The worst thing about a lot of fans is they can't move forward without letting the past drag them down. Get a grip.

Same tree...different branches...
aside from the do dos neither song is that deep...and they both ask the question of allegiane and saluting the flag. Musically America is better...even though it's also more simplistic and less original than the other, as it incorporates simple melodies and even the melody of "My country tis a thee"...both of which work. I think most agree that it's not his strongest song...even those that like the song. To keep bringing it up...um we get it already. Christian Zombie Vampires

ummm.... it would be better comparing "Dear Mr Man" to "United States" considering that they are closer and that one is a B-side to the album...
Try comparing "America" to "Hello" MUCH better.... 2 me they are like apples and oranges. WAY different sounds and years..get over it. It is not 1985 that is about to be 20 YEARS OLD! Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I wasnt expecting Prince to re-create anything. I was just stating my opinion loudly which was that America was better than TUSOD. Im okay with his change of mindframe so I dont need to get a grip, but you certainly do if you cant accept people's opinions. It's not that serious! &

I didnt feel like comparing DMM to TUSOD...I compared America and TUSOD because of the titles obviously. Its funny how everyone is telling me to get over something that Im not stuck on because Im too young to be. Guys, did you have your cigarettes or coffee today? &

I did see it...and this is the first thread comparing the 2 songs. Now I have seen many threads about this song alone...and that was what my comment was about. Not really towards you per se...but in this topic of USOD being what it is...and what it's not. That's what I was commenting on. Christian Zombie Vampires
