1999 vs. Musicology I noticed that in songs throughout 1999 there's a certain idealism that abounds in it. Songs like "Free" and DMSR seem to celebrate life, and being "free" of oppression, whereas songs in Musicology are much less idealistic and more cynical.
It seems almost like as much as Prince claims to not believe in time, he's let the years make him more cynical. [This message was edited Tue Aug 17 20:07:52 2004 by AsianBomb777]

I have been listening to 1999 a lot lately. It is an incredible journey. The first "album" is pop and dance that very few artists can compete with. The second "album" is some of the most innovative 80s alternative I have ever heard.

He became a superstar, someone different. The one thing that never changes is his reflection of himself within his music. Take a listen to Around the world in a day. Tell me what you hear. I hear confusion. Musicology is a crafted album. It was made with a purpose and I don't need to tell anyone what for. It's still no douby very honest. Is he cynical now? He has a few issues IMO, but so does everyone else. I think religion makes people judgemental and cynical. How many wars were fought in the name of religion. History is full of them. Probably more dead than saved. To me religion is like a blanket. One of those types of blankets you can put over your head and still see through. You know what I'm talking about.... So while you have this blanket over your head you can still see and hear what everyone else is doing. You think you're so clever, protected by a blanket that lets you see things... you think nobody can see you... but in the end all you really are is a person with a blanket over your head. Sometimes, you need that blanket to make the journey, but sooner or later you're going to have to take it off. Why the f*&^ I went into that I have no idea. Just call me Mr. Off topic. Sorry, no flames please.

AsianBomb777,
Blankets? Religion? You just hit the nail on the head. Seriously. And I just gave up blow for 9 days. Wicked. Maybe that's why Michael Jackson called his kid Prince. And his second kid Blanket. Fuck! He even covers them with blankets.... Oh God.. what I've tapped onto? I have Porche. I have Cable. How about it Baby?
