Oh come on, it's gotta be Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead O'Connor. That's the greatest cover version ever, period.

I like Hindu Love Gods version of Raspberry Beret, and I have a good live version of 17Days by Living Colour.
Sinead's version kills any of P's (which annihilate the song with over-arrangement), and Cyndi's When U Were Mine is gr8 (I heard it b4 the original, and it was the only song on her album I really went 4). "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

Age of Chance - Kiss
A totally rocked up version. Pleeeeease no-one put Tom Jones/Art of Noise version up on this thread. That version totally makes my skin crawl!

I love Miles Davis version of ´Penetration´ and Joshua Redman´s version of ´How come u dont call me´ is pretty good. I love Joshua Redmans take on How Come U Don't call Me Anymore! In fact that whole albums great. if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

I was watching mtv2 or something, who knows. That video came on and pretty much blew my mind. Talk about low budget! It had been so long since I'd seen it. Yes, she is a bit over dramatic, quite a bit in fact, but she did a good job conveying the song. Quite sexy until she let everything go to her head. no... I didn't mean that literally. LOL If anyone has heard that album what was it... "I do not want what I haven't got" something... It's an excellent CD, worth checking out for the songs "last day of our aquantance, black boys on mopeds, etc" She had something to say at the time. everything thing else after that was pure ego, her artistic killer. Just my take.

Also she experiments quite succesfully with modern sounds in 2000's "Faith and Courage". I don't wanna be no man's woman...

Sinead's way cool. Her version shits all over P's efforts. He ruins the song every time - makes it this over-the-top glam anthem. Her version stripped it back. Obviously nobody (including all u hardcore fans) would EVER have noticed the song without her version. "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

i never heard any of these covers. but i'm really curious about how d'angelo and tina turner and cyndi lauper sound. these aren't too old where i have to break a sweat trying to find them? by the way i'm sorry but i just think that alicia keyes didn't do anything to enhance "how come you dont call me anymore" she's cool but overrated due to the clive davis promotional machine. anyway does anybody know what album d'angelo's cover is on? and what album Tina turner's is on? i gotta hear this. i really like d'angelo to i wish he'd come out with something new.
