I do remember when I was in high school, I was kinda embarrassed, some people poked fun...but I never really cared much. Everyone knew I loved Prince (I guess my love for Zeppelin covered my ass a bit...hey I went to an all white suburban high school, what can I say) and some of my friends called him a fag and shit...then I threw some shit their way, and that was that.
I DO remember a guy in college asking me if I was gay because I said I liked Prince, and the dude was NOT joking. I just said "no, are U?" Now I am proud to say I listen to Prince and am waiting all the time to play some new stuff to people who have forgotten about him. I had a lot of people turned on to the "High" CD I made last year ( I burned it 5 times for former--and now once-again Prince fans), and some have liked "The Rainbow Children" (although I STILL think TRC is for us hardcores, and I think Prince intended for that...just like his recent shows.)

The subject usually don't even comes up with me- people i know are aware that i don't take no mess when it comes to liking what i like and doing whatever i want to do, but i agree that playing the new music is a good way to make people remember what they have forgotten.

When he sings, no. When he speaks, yep! Oh my! I couldnt have said that better myself... most all of my friends & co-workers think i'm crazy for loving Prince so much... anytime he actually speaks on tv. I think to myself, "oh god... they're not gonna leave me alone about this one".. BUT - that's ok... I am not ASHAMED to tell anyone that I love Prince! as far as a certain song = no... cuz if I told anyone my favorite song(s) they wouldnt know what it was anyways!! www.3121.com

Hey thanks2joniandu! I don't know if you remember me, but you were standing in line behind me and my friend 7kisses at the Prince concert in Cleveland, Ohio on March 10th. How are ya???? How did you like the concert? It was great, wasn't it? Prince was supposed to play in Pittsburgh at the end of March but it got cancelled. Wish Prince would reschedule it so I could go see him perform again. Once is never enough! Take care!! RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Well, yes when I was at junior high, but then again that was because everybody was into Metallica and other terrible shit. You know, walking around in their "Morbid Angel" T-shirts. Guess who came out with a better taste in music in the end?
Yes, society's are built the way anything that presents an anomaly in the sexual canon is supposed to be shameful. But Prince isn't an overtly popular artist anymore, so talking about Prince is much more accepted these days. But yes, since I grew up in a very bitter area, I have to say that back in 1994 Prince was the most hated artist when "the most beautiful girl" was released. But they were fucking teenagers who liked Metallica! [This message was edited Mon Apr 15 2:08:05 PDT 2002 by Novabreaker]

Am I embarrassed to like Prince? Hell No! However I do try to avoid talking about him in front of people simply because I know so much about him and have so much to say about him that I’m afraid that when I start I’ll end up boring people to death. But if someone asks me who my favourite artist is I’ll always say Prince.
Also, purpleunderground. I will not hear a word said against Dead or Alive. I heard one of their songs for the first time last week. ‘U spin me round like a record’ and it’s absolutely fantastic. I went straight out, bought it and I’ve been listening to it repeatedly since. It’s just so alive, passionate, sexy and god damn romantic. I think with all the negative music (Goth and devil worshipping) and all the R+B boy band shite this is such a breath of fresh air. Have you ever heard their version of Pop Life, which’s great as well. PS. Graffiti Bridge is good. It’s not a film, it’s a concept. A frame work for Princes music.

When he sings, no. When he speaks, yep! I wonder if Chris Moon in 1978 was a true marketing visionary and could see that Prince would not come across well when he spoke in interviews. The answer to that would be to create an air of mystery around Prince which worked a treat in the 80's. I know that Moon once said that Prince was very quite and didnt really speak much anyway.

Let's just say high school was murder. So much time speaking in his defence/justifying his unbelievable talent. But in the end his music speaks 2 me like no other. All those who push the words of HATE are simply ignorant 2 the power of real music,or in possession of any real "SOUL" for that matter.

RE my feelings of embarassment... i was raised partially in hick towns in nebraska. i am an american living in france and speak w/ an american accent. i proudly walk about wearing a very 80's duran duran t-shirt (i love all kinds of uncool 80's music and wear weird clothes sometimes) and am a member of an unpopular religion (Jehovah's Witness)... so suffice to say, no i'm not embarassed to like prince...

When he sings, no. When he speaks, yep! NEVER..NEITHER!! When he signs...he's smooth as butta!! When he speaks (although sometimes seems a little shy), he has the deepest, sexiest voice I have EVER heard....OMG... That's just my opinion...(but I am always right j/k) Peace + B Wild!

I used to be! Back in the 80's.But now my friends and family ask me about his Music and admit they like it.
He was so ahead of his time, it was just too honest! His passion and emotion were so real it caused embarrasment if you were not in touch with yourself already. His 2nd LP showed me my feelings, then I knew what I was feeling was apart of Life. We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.

In times like these when "boy bands" are going 5 and 6 times platinum and they are not even bands, why the hell should anyone be ashamed to declare they love Prince? U all should know what he has always been capable of even when he was younger than Justin Timberlake and the gang, so I'm not even gonna go into that. I tell everyone he is my all time favorite every chance I get especially those naive MJ fans I mean how more embarrassing can u get? Anyway i'm too far gone to be tactful about it any longer. Shit if I had the technology, I would become Prince!!!

Oh my gosh!
Ya'll must be talkin' to me when you came up with this topic! I was born in '86 I feel completely left out!Ok let me explain...I'm 16 years old and I just got into Prince! Let me tell you people just do not understand! But I think he is a musical genius! He just speaks to me more than any other artist of this era! He's awesome! When I saw Purple Rain for the first time I was like whoa! So to answer the question coming from someone who's still in high school,I'm not embarassed I just forgive my friends for teasing me 'cause they know not what they say!

TheResistor said: They play "Arms of Orion" at the Batman ride at Six Flags. They've been playing it for years. The last time I was there, I tried to talk to my friends to get their attention away from the song. Eventually, a friend said, "What the fuck is this music." Without missing a beat another friend said,"Oh God is this Prince?" All four of my friends turned to look at me like it was my fault. That was embarrassing. I hate the song...Why they don't play "Partyman" or "Electric Chair," or hell anything from the soundtrack besides that godawfull song, is beyond me.
Thankfully, at King's Dominion in VA they DO play Partyman & Electric Chair.
