A tie between Joy In Repetition and The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker. It just the sheer sounds of the songs that define Prince to me. They are both smooth, sexy, and mysterious and it doesn't get better than that.

Geezus this is hard! But I guess I'm gonna say Poom Poom. I always put it on when I'm driving home from work when I've had a good day. Then I start dancing all retarded in my car and people laugh at me. And I love the beginning part "What am I gonna do" ahhh I friggin love that!

All you guys who picked "Joy in Repetiton" are truly cool. That song is awesome and so different. The hand claps and the "hey's" make it for me. That really takes a music fan to appreciate it, it's so weird.

Days Of Wild... it's just a killer live!
Though I must admit that the studio version doesn't quite cut it (I can't put my finger on exactly why)

I know this isn't the deepest Prince song ever, but I always go back to D.M.S.R.!!!!! I've been a fan since Controversy, so maybe it's because soon after that 1999 came out? I don't know, but I have so many videos of him doing that live, and it's just the jam, so much fun! Ever see the Purple Rain Rehearsal show? Tell me that when he does DMSR at the end that that isn't one of the best moments of Prince on video. Too Funky!!!

Mmh, I think that's not the song, u meant. 'Hand claps and 'Hey's'' r in the song 'The question of U'. Right??

Hmmmmm... Irresistible Bitch (perhaps!) Just listen to Wendy play that funk guitar intro on the live cut... Just that alone is a jam in itself isn't it???

my friend, study music before you post such a comment. that song is no prince-song. it was written by james brown/bobby byrd back in 1969.

I'm well aware of that. But I love the way he did it on Jam Of The Year Tour

Housequake....the song is funny as shit and fuckin' smokes...that big, hard, loud funky drumming is immediately infectious....and love that "Shut Up already, damn!!" that kicks it off...as well the "needle-stuck-at-the-end-of-the-lp" sound effect tacked onto the very end...and the synthesizer chords are eerie as hell, too...just everything about that song championed Prince as the coolest, funkiest, baddest, most creative fucker around...

Everybody shut up!...Listen 2 the band...

Mountains (the extended version from the 12")

That was one of my favorites before I heard the long version and getting over 5 more minutes of excellent solos in the extended version really made my day when I first heard it.

Others have felt like they were my favorites over the years, but none have weathered time like Mountains has, for me.

For a true jam, my favorite right now seems to be the extended version of Billy Jack Bitch. The horns at the end are enough for me to make it one of Prince's best songs ever.

For favorite song, though, not just jam- I'd probably say Love 2 the 9s or I Hate U.
