Prince broods alone at after-party http://www.chron.com/cs/C...es/2725519
Aug. 8, 2004, 7:27PM Prince broods alone at after-party By SHELBY HODGE Copyright 2004 Houston Chronicle Prince, the master of kinky funk, may have generated a party atmosphere in Toyota Center Friday night, but when it came to his after-party at Jet Lounge, the late-night Prince was more Hamlet than rock star. Brooding, sitting alone with his bottled water, Prince displayed a post-concert persona that was a puzzle to club owners Michael Caplan and his fiancee, Michele Mendenhall. At the star's request, the contempo lounge was filled with burning incense, candles and fragrant Casa Blanca lilies and purple gladioluses. Zula sent over a chef to prepare Prince's supper of whitefish "that didn't smell fishy." He ate alone. Jerry Vann of Emerge Productions had rented out the spanking-new lounge a block south of Toyota Center for the Prince entourage and, as is tradition with star tours, invited a few locals to join the "party." Not. No guests allowed. Vann got in. So did publicist Karen Steele and gallery owner Barbara Davis, but only briefly and only because the gals pleaded for potty time. The musician's band, security and entourage totaled just over two dozen. That was it. As Prince seemed to regain his equilibrium after food and drink, the star began moving around the lounge, Caplan reported, grooving by himself to the mellow tunes spun by DJ Sun. Before long, this subdued party was over.

Well the whole pizza thing on stage was a giveaway that he's no longer a vegan. I'm shocked that he'd start eating meat again though - especially considering that his feelings were strong enough to write a song like "Animal Kingdom". I guess the hope is still alive then that the assless pants might one day resurface! "We're all members of the animal kingdom

I must admit to finding this dissapointing, I aint a Vegan myself though I am a Vegatarian and I could never consider eating meat ever again, I just dont understand how someone makes the decision that eating animals it ethically wrong and then later decides otherwise.

Yes thats right, usually you come to a conclusion that eating meat is wrong and theres no going back, and after reading Prince articles I cant understand why he has,he said that he thought a meat free diet was benificial to his health and he also said that it was uneccesary to eat animals and he thought they were too cute to eat,I dont really follow that its because he's a Gemini because I think starsigns are fabricated rubbish and seeing as Prince dosent believe in birthdays neither should he,inless he's changed his mind about that.

true. i guess if you are famous, you aint ever allowed to change you mind. one of my best friends was vegan for a good while, but his doctor said he wasn't getting as much of certain things as he would incorporating a bit of meat to his diet. i know some people are able to get by just fine, but his doctor was concerned enough about what he wasn't getting to recommend it. everyone's body is different and processes certain vitamins and nutrients in varying ways. who knows what the deal was with prince. but yeah, dude is a fuckin gemini. why should this be surprising? sure its a contradiction, but does have to write a song about it as an apology to his fans? as far as being disappointed, who really gives a fuck what prince eats?

Not true. I know tons of vegans. I've done years of research on it. There are maybe a handful of people out there who can't be 100% healthy on a vegan diet. As for who cares what he eats, or it not being a big deal - It is a big deal. I get very pissed off when I run into someone I haven't seen in a while and they ask me if I'm "still a vegan" - like it's some sort of whimsical phase. I'm not saying that we need to analyze everything that the man does or call him an asshole because he's eating meat again, but veganism is serious - it's not a phase and people have no business treating it like it is. When people hear about celebrities like Prince turning away from veganism, it just further perpetuates that attitude. Another thing that really ticks me off - Prince just said in an interview not long ago at all - while on the Musicology tour, actually - that he doesn't eat meat. Fish is meat. "We're all members of the animal kingdom

I've been told my more than one vegetarian or vegan that the two are totally different. They told me that Vegans don't eat any animals whatsoever, nor to they ingest any products that come from animals, ie, eggs and milk. Vegetarians just don't eat red meat. Fish aren't red meat. Neither are birds such as turkey and chicken. Pork is white meat, as we have all seen from the commercials. "Pork, the other white meat." Sorry, just had to say it. So, maybe Prince has decided that he can't live without a good helping of some "Chicken of the Sea". So, now that would make him a vegetarian instead of a vegan. Now, if I see or hear about him getting hooked up with a Whopper, than I can understand the complaint.
he thought they were too cute to eat
Awww, that's such a cute reason not to eat animals. That was one of the reasons why I once wanted to be a vegetarian, that and I'm going to school to be a Veterinarian. I was all into converting into the herbivore life style until I actually had to work with cows, sheep, chickens, and other farm animals. Man, are they stupid. Anything that dumb should be consumed. Now, pigs are extremely intelligent, so I try not to eat pork products, but God made cows, sheep, and chickens to eat. Many fish aren't that bright either. We don't want them to overpopulate the earth, now do we? Like I said, I've met many Vegans and Vegetarians who are against killing animals, but I've seen them swat at flies and kill cockroaches. He was a vegetarian for years and then went vegan so I guess he's back now. again i still think he needs to eat a little more, this tour though at least he's holding weight, usually by this time in the tour he is reallly skinny.
Since the original thread was about an afterparty I am selfishly glad he didn't play because I waited around for 3 hours before going back to my hotel, hoping to find an after show. so I didn't miss anything, I know that's selfish but it makes me feel better We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Fish is meat. i'm not saying that being a vegan isn't diet that can't be sustained. i said that my friend's doctor told him that it was affecting his health. now perhaps the doctor didn't know enough to recommend how my friend could have done better for himself, but he has some health issues that the doctor was concerned about. so that was just his recommendation. but i do support the idea that everyone's body is different. there could be a whole lot of reasons as to why he turned away from it than just some kind of weakness. though of course, maybe he did just one day decide to switch back. i wasn't trying to suggest that veganism isn't serious. however, i also think that it is a much harder thing to do for some people than they might realize. it requires a lot more research than most people realize to be truly vegan. i'd be more curious as to why he decided to turn away from veganism than anything. not trying to attack your belief. i'm sure your feelings are stronger on the subject.
