Under the Cherry Moon THIS bad?!?

Of ALL the movies released in 1987 was it really the worst directed, worst acted and worst picture? Did any of y'all think Jerome did bad enough to deserve worst supporting actor? Here are the awards and nominations the film received:

1987 Razzie Awards: Worst Director: Prince
1987 Razzie Awards: Worst Supporting Actor: Jerome Benton
1987 Razzie Awards: Worst Actor: Prince
1987 Razzie Awards: Worst Picture
1987 Razzie Awards: Worst Supporting Actress nominee: Kristin Scott Thomas
1987 Razzie Awards: Worst Screenplay nominee

eek eek eek Yikes!

I really don't remember UTCM, but if this was GB, then absolutely yes. I tried watching that garbage about 3 times, and always ended up turning it off.
It's 1984 All Over Again!

It is a bad movie - but it's so bad it's good.

Unlike GB, that's just so bad, it's a pile of shit, and should only be viewed if you wish to give yourself nightmares about Robin Power jumping you.

Razzies have been, largely, about bringing attention to themselves. They picked "The Phantom Menace" for the worst of nearly everything back in '99. Of course there were FAR worse movies out there, but selecting a Star Wars' film, as disappointing as it was, was sure to get media attention and piss off the diehards. I'm guessing they had the same motives for Under the Cherry Moon. Make the Prince fans mad, during a year in which he had a big hit (Kiss), and gain celebrity for themselves. Ho-hum.

That proves my ongoing theory (I sit around and theorize about things, a lot) that the Razzie members don't vote from the heart, but rather the pocketbook. Whatever brings attention to them. If Prince happened to be as popular when Graffiti Bridge came out, the film woulda won every razzie available to man and the gods (the gods knows it deserved it). I don't think it was even nominated for anything. The Razzies figured Prince was a thing of the past and probably picked a current "hot" celebrity film to pick on. rolleyes

If Prince made a crappy movie now, after his current fame with the Musicology tour, they may decide to nominate it for quite a few things. Lucky he's on stage, not behind the camera. wink
