Yeah so im a newer Prince fan and im still scratching the surface of his albums so whatever cd gets the most votes wins it's place in my collection next

SO i have

Purple Rain
1999
Dirty Mind
Diamonds and Pearls
Parade
ATWIAD
Emancipation
Musicology

Yikes! Puttin' the pressure on! I'd have to say, in this order, Lovesexy, The Rainbow Children, The Gold Experience. If you're a big fan of Purple Rain and 1999, The Gold Experience will prolly be the 1 u end up liking the most. Sign is also an excellent choice.

This is a hard question. There are soo many greats that you should buy. I just bought my "Sign O' The Times" and "Controversy" albums 4 months ago (I had the money to splurge a little biggrin ) I'm still lovin them! biggrin It really depends on what you feel like hearing from him. He's got a lot of albums that are more fast-paced than others, so it depends on whether you want to jam out or just chill. I agree that "The Gold Experience" and "Lovesexy" have the best mix of different styles...from ballads to booty-shakin' jams. I'm really into the "Symbol" album right now. It was my first P album, but I never used to listen to it that much. Now, I've re-played "Blue Light", "Morning Papers", "Love 2 the 9s", and "Damn U" soo many times, the album skips. I used to listen to "The Hits" albums non-stop and I bought them without the B-sides....twice neutral ....don't know how that keeps happening, maybe because I keep buying them separate shrug. Anyway, you can get them for cheap on Secondspin.com, but you have to buy them separate and they probably won't sell the B-sides separate, just Volume 1 and Volume 2. "LoveSexy" is good, but you might have to track it, because many of them were made as just one track....man, I hate having to fast forward when I just want to hear "Anna Stesia". It's at 16:34 on the album....that's a lot of holding down that fast forward button. So, after all of my little rambling, I'd say that if you like "Purple Rain" and "Diamonds and Pearls", than "The Gold Experience" should be your next purchase. Many people are saying it is hard to find, but Secondspin.com has like 5 or 6 copies of it and many other Prince albums for decent prices. Go used if you're going to buy any Prince albums, because record stores want to charge you an arm-and-leg for some Prince albums. Good luck.

You MUST own "Sign O The Times". His defining work, no doubt about it.

After that, pick up:

Lovesexy (try to get an import that is tracked, if possible)
The Gold Experience
prince
Controversy
The Black Album

Get "New Power Soul", "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic" and "Batman" dead last. Those are his crappiest albums, in my opinion. All filler, very little substance (of course, I'll take a crappy Prince album almost any day over most of the stuff out there. Only NPS is truly dreadful)

I am with JediMaster save for his opinion of "Batman." It's not a great album, but it's definitely worth a listen for "The Future," "Electric Chair" and "Scandalous" alone.

What are you fucking kidding? I think it's a commonly accepted rule that if you don't own every single album release he has put out you aren't a fan

C'mon, people. You know it's like this: no "Exodus" on your record shelf - no right to keep posting to these forums.

CO-SIGN!
If you didn't buy New Power Soul on the day of release, or find Crystal Ball in the stores, before the one you pre-ordered a year in advance (cause it wasn't going to be sold in stores) was shipped to your house... you shouldn't have the right to post in these forums.

Glad you guys aren't the ones who make up the rules on posting or bieng a fan...cuz that is utterly ridiculous criterion. mad

THE HITS : The B Sides CD

My favorite memories of being an early Prince fan were buying the 12" Singles and getting a completely new song on the B side of the record. These songs are a MUST HAVE set.

It is one of 3 CDs that were part of "Prince - THE HITS" Collection. Not to be mistaken for
The Best Of Prince CD.

I have all those on 12" Vinyl.

After U get this B sides Disc , Go Get "The Black Album", Then Get "LoveSexy", Then get Sign Of The Times~

This was a 3 CD Era for Prince. The Black Album was Dark and LoveSexy was Light and Spiritual. Sign Of The Times was a Quilt of Many Colors.

I think you should buy them in the order of rarity, because they are only going to get progressively harder to find, the longer you leave it. So in order of rarity they would be:

01. "The Black Album"
02. The Gold Experience
03. Newpower Soul

I don't know which is funnier: half-assed sarcasm or people who don't get it.
