Well, it all makes sense to me.

Thanks a lot BJ for answering my request! B4 I read your reply, I relistened to the song and it did make more sense. I came up with an analysis similar to yours (but far less thorough of course). There are still some holes, but I think overall it makes sense as, at least, one level of the song's meaning.

What I realized, though, was that I had dismissed this interpretation first time round, coz Prince's character comes out of the song looking bad! I was used to rants about WB where he's the good guy and they f'd him over. Here, he comes off as a self-indulgent gigolo. This is a great revelation, and even explains how more relaxed he seems these days. He's exorcized the anger, by recognizing that he was no better than WB!!! This is big news!!!

OTOH: if yoiur analysis is right, we're back to a racist reading of the lines about the skin-color. But I'll go further. If this is the case, it would seem that the nose comment is related to some of WB's senior executives being Jewish. This would be even more indefensible than the potential antisemitic overtones of Family Name.

THANK YOU so much, for somebody takin notice, I'm so glad 2 C somebody IS paying attention 2 his Lyrics, I think there are some great points made about ICP&C, Now I am confused, the songs seems 2 fit 4 WB, & Mayte, I originally believed it was about Mayte, Tommy & Pamela, but Dang u guys have brought up some good points, Love his hidin messages. He does it so well, & yes, I very much so read into his songs & notice certain things stimulate his writings, as to what is going on or has gone on in his life. So I have to ask:
Who's the "If I was the man in ur life" about?
Mani? She does'nt look like the type that would drink liquor,
But I'll bet Mayte did when she hooked up with Tommy, & I'm sure Prince gave her perfume.
or is it Carmen?
Hmmm.... I think Mayte
I just don't know
any ideas?

It's a metaphor for the music industry...listen carefully to the story...

Illusion- The illusion of being a star
Pimp-He got pimped/he pimped back
Coma-state of shock after being manipulated by his label
Circumstance-its a different day now...

Your theory sounds much better. That other theory seemed way off base.

Absolutely Cannot see your Analyzation. Doesn't make sense. it is was it is.. Could be Totally Fictitous which it Probably is.

Yeah it could be fictitious if his voice was a little less involved and serious. Doesn't sound like "a story" Prince says this is "the story" of something he's very not directly connected with but "remotely" involved in.

The more I hear it the more I hear Tommy Lee but i'm not sure the other person is.

Just popped this track back in and I have to say in my own honest opinion...There is NO WAY ON HECK that this song has anything to do with Tommy Lee. Although, this is the funniest theory I have ever read about a Prince song or any song for that matter. Like he gives a F about Tommy Lee.. Savannah...you are too funny and may have too much time on your hands. I am going with the Warner Bros. Theory. Prince will never, ever get over what happened in the lapse of that relationship and I am sure he will be writing and talking more about the music industry experience as his career goes on.

Funny. Doesn't the musical sound of 'Cinamon Girl' remind you kinda "the Gold Experience" era. I mean, the female harmonies sound kinda like Myte in the backup vox on 'Dolphin', plus the instruments remind me of that era too. Not complaining, just somethin' that made me go Hhhmmm.... Some of Musicology reminds me of the 'Chaos & Disorder' and the 'Gold Experience' albums just a tinge. However, I have been enjoying Musicology. Especially Musicology, ICP&C, Call My Name, On The Couch, well, I guess the whole thang!

I don't like I,C,P & C. The songs I like on Musicology are: Reflection, Call My Name, The Marrying Kind, What Do U Want Me 2 Do(same riff as Dorothy Parker, is why) & Musicology is growing on me....

If he was/is so broken up over his situation w/ Mayte, he certainly bounced back w/ a quickness, and moved on 2 the NEXT wife. I say it looks like he's moving on 2 ME. wave

The previous thread about ICP&C got derailed by some foolish notion of racism. So I want you all to ask yourselves what is this song about? Its never been pin-pointed.

I've listened to this great song enough to know what Prince is talking about now and its definately not Doris Duke. Given that Prince hasn't put lyrics in a studio album for a while, he was due to react in some way to what was going on with his ex. Also if Prince is going to be making a point about someones money/fortunes we all know its going to be his own.

In Prince's traditional cryptic way, I suspect this song is referring to he as a she.

About Tommy Lee (the bitch) and his most recent marriage, the fallout and hook up with Mayte while Prince is still paying the bills... from the tone of his voice, private jokes and comic defense mechanisms. . i'm convinced this is the point of the song.

Listen to it a few more times. its quite a funny and jabby song. We all know Prince isn't going to step right up and call the guy a bitch, sponging off his ex around Europe. This is the sort of song i've grown to expect from him since his settlement.

Your thoughts? I'm not in the org much these days but i'm curious to know what everyone else thinks.

Dude, i'm originally from Lynn, Lynn the city of Sin a few towns down from you and you know u'd get your ass whupped for saying that.. especially from a N.Andover Boy wink Time wasting? Huh this is only the second thread that attempted to shed light on the lyrics of this very powerful song and if you don't think he gives a F about Tommy Lee... LOL.. think again.

Prince is taking "JABS" at someone at this song. Therefore its that old washed up WB story.

Then "WHO" is he taking jabs at?

Thats one of my arguments.. you are right. It is terribly out of place on the album. Then why is in there at #2 behind the scrolling of the radio? Could it have been something that happened recently (at that time) that had him include it at the last minute? When Tommy and Mayte were an item.

ahhhhh shite... from Lynn? Damn, I can't be messing with anyone from Lynn. I will give you this... all of our assumptions are opinions. The great thing about P's lyrics is that they more times than not have deeper meanings and realistically we will never know what most of his songs are about but it is fun to guess. It's almost like reading a great poet and four times after reading the poem you realise what that poet meant.
M

PS: Savannah are you still in Lynn? and if not how could you move?
