Wooh this thread turned pretty heated since I was last hear. I personally respect others rights to do as they please ,but I do often wish I was treated with the same respect back, now the thing is Prince can do what he wants and it aint anyones buisness but his own,but the thing is Vegans and Vegatarians get little support as it is,they are often treated as an outsider so when a high profile person such as Prince shows his support in this direction it is a positive thing to a Vegan or Vegatarian and it feels dissopointing if he turns his back on it as reports seem to state whether its trues another matter. To Vegans and Vegatarians their beliefs are important and I get loads of shit from closed minded people ,many of their attitudes are not disimilar to older generations attitude towards homosexuality or equal rights to men and women etc, all because I dont wanna eat animals.

That's one of the things that is really bothering me in this thread - all these "he changed his mind" comments. Veganism is NOT that casual!!!! It should NEVER be treated as such. A person who decides that they're sick of being blonde, so they dye their hair dark is changing their mind. Turning your back on a lifestyle based on living in accordance to your ethics is pretty major.

What's riling me up so much in this thread is not necessarily the fact that Prince may or may not have eaten fish. What bothers me is the casual attitude taken towards something that should be treated with great respect.

I can't tell you how many nights I've stayed up crying because of some horrible incident of animal abuse that I read in the news or saw on tv. I've worked first hand with animals who have been tortured beyond belief - it's what made me go vegan. It's the most important thing in the world to me, and I'm not alone. Most of my vegan friends feel the same way. For someone to treat it like it's just a phase to grow out of - it just makes my heart sink. My veganism is rarely taken seriously by anyone other than my family and my vegan friends. No one should be waiting for me to "get over it" or "change my mind". If I ever do turn my back on veganism, I would hope that people would take it seriously and not just take the attitude that I grew bored with it.

So you quoted me...agreed and COMPLETELY MISSED MY POINT.

Why would you accuse me of missing your point, and not follow up by clarifying? I wasn't trying to be argumentative. In fact there is only one person in this thread that I've been argumentative with, and it's because that person completely twisted my words.

So what exactly WAS your point? I thought your point was that preaching to people about veganism and then going back on that to eat some fish is no big deal. If that's not what you were saying, then I misunderstood you. It's the internet. Misunderstandings happen all the time. I think I've been very respectful though, so I don't know why you wouldn't want to set me straight.

Look; I think this whole thread got out of hand. I was wrong (as were a few others) for automatically jumping to the conclusion that Prince was actually eating fish and renouncing his vegetarianism. I also believe that there has been a severe lack of understanding from others on this thread as to why it would matter to a vegan if another vegan does decide to stray from his or her commitment to the lifestyle.

All in all, however, I think this whole entire thread is nothing but people misunderstanding each other. Yes; I do care about why someone may have given up veganism/vegetarianism. Yes; it's important to me that people take it seriously rather than treat it as a phase. Yes; there is the possibility that this entire story about him eating fish is in error. No; we shouldn't obsess about what Prince does in his personal life.

Really, I think my only beef about this entire thread is that I feel like people are trying to say that I'm silly for being upset at the idea of someone committing themselves to a vegan lifestyle, only to later reject it. I never said I was judging the man. There are plenty of reasons why I feel the way I do towards veganism, and honestly, I think the only way anyone could possibly understand it is if he or she is also a vegan. I don't like being made to feel like I have no reason to feel the way I do about certain things, and that's just the feeling that I got from people on this thread.

At least THIS KellyAnne isn't as obnoxious as the last one lol

KellyAnne, FYI, there was this ignorant, racist, crazy person with that name a few years ago (or maybe it was longer?!?)

but she wasn't a vegan

No, I'm not and I haven't said ONE offensive thing yet. All I've done is try to encourage people to understand why this attitude is so troubling. Have I once in this entire thread said that people who eat meat are wrong? No. I respect other people's beliefs and I expect people to respect mine. I was naturally bothered by Estelle for putting words in my mouth, and I took offense to Supernova's closed minded comments, but that's it.

I thought more people knew what it was like to constantly have their most passionate beliefs constantly mocked. I guess not.

lol Is this girl serious? She responds to my post with much attitude and insists on getting mad at me for something she said and I'll quote it for ya:

One of my neighbors is a total b*tch with no manners. Perhaps I should think about making a meal out of her.

Malicious thinking is just a bad as malicious actions. Any spiritual person would know that. If someone has lustful thoughts about another person's spouse, it is no different than the man who has sex with a married person. It's still adultery either way. You had to think it to say it. Plus, you called your neighbor a bitch, which means you have some resentment towards her. I said you were showing malice towards her, which you are in your thoughts if you can call her out of her name and you got angry about it. Yet have the audacity to type this:

If you can't handle someone speaking the truth without sugar-coating something, you should probably thicken up a bit.
Hun, whatever.

Then you insisted on making this snide, disrespectful, and totally rude comment:

Besides, would you eat a dog? Pigs are much smarter than dogs.

Not to mention totally misquoting me and saying that I said animals were stupid. I said, "cows, sheep, chickens, and many other farm animals are stupid. But pigs are extremely intelligent." So, I guess farm animals are the only animals on the planet as you say. Maybe you shouldn't be putting words in people's mouth and maybe you should learn to respect others opinions.
Then you have the nerve to make this stupid ASSumption:

And I'm sorry, but I do think I probably know a bit more about this than you do, having trained shelter dogs for many years.

Gee, Five years working in two different veterinary clinics, one dealing with small domestics, exotics, and birds and the other dealing with small domestics and farm animals, and to be all knowing, all I had to do was work at a dog shelter doh! The whole year working at that exotic animal santuary with elephants, tigers, and lemurs; and to be an animal expert I just had to be a kennel cleaner at the pound. doh! Four years wasted in college majoring in Veterinary Technology where we had to work with Shelter dogs, shelter cats, and many others; and working in a shelter makes some poop scooper more knowledgable than any Veterinarian who has practiced for over 30 years. doh! All those days I sat up with that week-old kitten and bottle fed him and had to watch him die because he was too young to get the medication to save his life. All those weeks I sat with that sweet German Shepherd, whose owner decided to tie her to a tree and leave her for dead. Having to put a sling under her belly and walk her around every day because she couldn't go to the bathroom on her own. Hand-feeding her and showing her love that she'd never known. Yet, I have no idea about animals. Yeah, sweetheart, you keep telling yourself that. For someone who has such sympathy and compassion for animals, you have the ability to imply that animals can have fear, depress, happiness, and stress, but anger and malice are impossible emotions for them to possess. lol
It's obvious which one of us is the bigger person her. I apologized to you, KellyAnn, you didn't show yourself to be much of a "spiritual" person and turn the other cheek even after I said that you had offended me and hurt my feelings. rolleyes You'll be alright, someday.

I think that for the most part, more than half of you are out of your fucking minds.

Who cares whether he eats fish or is a psycho vegan or not? He changed his mind- people aren't allowed to change their minds?

I see this story as hope that maybe one day Prince will once again use MotherFucker as a lyric, drop this preachy, religious crap, and start jerking off his guitar again

Now I'm off to Bar-B-Que a nice slab of meat that was once an innocent littel cow. and I'm going to wash down said cow with milk from its own teats.

And dont bother preaching to me.... my basement fridge is filled with venison I've shot myself.

From the looks of this thread, Vegan must be Latin for, "Takes themselves WAY too seriously"...

Who gives a flyin' Brontasaurus Burger WHAT prince eats or doesn't eat? If you want to be a vegan, fine, but could we lighten up a tad with all this?

I feel really sorry for you. Grow up and drop the attitude. You've done nothing but lie and put words in my mouth. I feel very sorry for you. You deserve as much sympathy as I can give you.

God, who is loony enough to take a comment like "maybe I should eat my neighbor" as serious???? You need help.

And there's a HUGE difference, little one, between animal biology and animal behavior. You might know plenty about one, but you obviously know NOTHING about the other. And yes; you did say that certain animals were stupid. Just drop it. You have nothing of value to add.

While your at it, take your own advice, because I'm not the only person you've taken out of context here. Anyone whose opinion has differed from yours in this thread has gotten attitude from you. If my quoting what you said it lying, than maybe you should re-read your posts after you've typed them, because every single one of those quotes are directly from your posts. I feel sorry for you getting mad at Prince for eating some fish and angry with me for say that cows are intellectually dumber than many farm animals. This is a known fact. Like I said, you disrespected me and hurt my feelings and I apologized to you but you can't do the same to me. Self-importance? Looks like I'm not the one who needs to get off my high horse here. Did I question your intelligence on animal matters, no, I didn't; but you disrespected mine and ASSumed that I am clueless on animal biology and behavior. Of course, there's a hugh difference, little one, between the two. Since your screenname has the number 22 after it, I'm thinking that's your age. You're no older than me, yet you come off as all-knowing on the matter. From your own statement, you said you worked with Shelter dogs which is a beautiful thing, but have you ever worked with any other animals besides dogs? If not, can you really say that you know more than the guy off the street who owns a cat? Nope. It's obvious that you have a God-complex and have trouble apologizing for saying hurtful things to others, but expect others to sympathize with you and your feelings. I hope you learn to respect others differerences and admit to your own faults. I done with this one. Happy hunting.

Actually, I agree with you. It's just people saying the same thing over and over. And I'm part of the blame as well.

I'm sorry, everyone. It is true that I am a bit too sensitive about this stuff. And to tell you the truth, my whole attitude was just "oh, whatever; who cares", until PurpleCharm's comment. And PC, if you're reading this, I'm not trying to go off on you or anything here; I probably took it completely out of context. But that's what set me off. As someone whose beliefs are mocked every single day - even by loved ones- yes, I think it's understandable that I would be a bit too sensitive sometimes.

I really am sorry for helping to drag this stupid thread out. It really did get way out of hand; there's no way any of us will ever understand where the other is coming from, and I'm okay with that.

Estelle, I feel that you have managed to do nothing but twist my words, contradict yourself and deliberately try to offend me. You feel that I have done the same. If I have said anything wrong, I'm sorry. Let's just let it go, 'kay?

To the rest of y'all - no hard feelings. Let's just try to embrace respect and understanding as much as possible.

Again, my apologies. I'm just coming from a place in my heart that's already been badly bruised, so I'm making mountains out of molehills. neutral

You dont want to eat meat fine but dont come playing all superior please

Animals can and do display malice; wolves/dolphins/hyenas/ all spring to mind - many others are the same - just the animal kingdom at work

monkeys can be very cruel to neighbouring territorial monkeys

but hey that is not a reason to eat them i know - but it is also not a reason to refrain

why not just be happy with your own choice and leave others to make theirs?
