You think "Take Your Mama" by Scissor Sisters sounds like PRINCE?
If anything, I'd say that song is Elton John straight off of "Honky Chateau" -- a dead ringer in fact! It's more Elton than Elton's been in fifteen years! I can't hear a lick of anything else but Elton in that one. Can't hear Prince in there at all, but that's just me. Keith/Kacey

That lead singer sounds an awful lot like Prince. But yeah, I do see more Elton in that song than Prince. Also, that Remy Shand dude kinda had some soulful Prince-sounding stuff too. Well most of Jody Watley's first album, but of course that's cuz of Andre who was secretly married to her back then.
Several tracks on Paula Abdul's 1st album are also pretty Princely, especially "The Way That You Love Me", and a couple others, can't remember right now. I'm pretty sure St. Paul Peterson co-wrote or produced some of the tracks so there's a connection. A lot of Maxwell and D'Angelo stuff is very Prince like too. So much does cuz Prince has so many styles and has influenced so many people. People alwayas get mad me cuz I'm like "that is a Prince influence" and they think I'm crazy and that I'm trying to make everything connected to Prince but usually there is some connection.

Doesn't anyone remember back in '91, just before the release of "Diamonds & Pearls", back in the days of the New Power Phone Info line (I was calling daily..lol), there was a new song on the radio that EVERYONE swore was Prince! It was actually a song called "Do Anything" by a group (?) called Natural Selection.
I believe it still is debated to this day, adding fuel to the rumours that P had something to do with it is that Ingrid Chavez had a writing credit on the thing, I believe. And the fact it sounds like P at his most poppy, radio friendly. The song went Top 20, I think. It certainly sounds like a track that maybe had an original demo and was totally aped by an unknown group...along with speeded up Camille-style lead vocals. Speaking of the speedup vocal thing, another song from that same era by Ween, "Push the Little Daisies" would be another choice of mine. They are admitted Prince fans and ape the Camille thing...sounds like weird Prince..i love it... HOLY POOP!!! I can't believe I forgot about that one! I went nuts over that song when it came out (I think I was about 15)!! I used to rock out to it in my bedroom with my tight-rolled jeans on. Just from the tiniest bit that I can remember, I think I could possibly agree, but it's seriously been over 10 years since I last heard it. Damn; talk about a flashback! You guys are going to hate my ass for this but.....
The kid from NYSNC...JC has a song titled "100 Ways" and a number of folks (including myself) definitely pick up on the Prince vibe when you listen to it. [This message was edited Tue Aug 10 21:48:30 2004 by Averett]

The usual suspects:
Britney's "Slave 4 U" A lot of Dre's Love Below album. D'Angelo's "Untitled." Almost every single by Ready For The World (only one I ever liked was "Digital Display"). There are a lot of examples that I can't think of at the moment. The entire N*E*R*D album (sans the last 3 songs) reeks of Prince's '80-82 era (Dirty Mind/Controversy/1999) id and spirit. Lyrically its only semblance to Prince is the explicitness, but Pharrell and Hugo don't know how to be clever about it. Quite honestly, it's many times sophomoric lyrically. The arrangements aren't elaborate, they do more with less, as Prince was known to back in his heyday. All that being said, the album doesn't "sound" like Prince (not in the most obvious way, like those listed above). But you do hear his spirit of inventiveness within the arrangements (synth, drum rhythms, guitar). ` [This message was edited Tue Aug 10 22:23:22 2004 by Supernova] This post not for the wimp contingent. Ingrid was actually singing on the 1st version that came on the radio. That 1st version actually sounded a LOT more like P than the one that made it to #20 on the pop charts. The 1st time I heard it, I was in my car with another Prince fan, and he actually hollered out "this is Prince!!" and turned my radio up as far as it would go. Ingrid sounded so much better than Elisa, it actually almost ruined the song when I heard it without Ingrid. I recorded the song off of the radio (the old WLOL in the Twin Cities) onto the "b" side of Ralph Tresvants "Sensitivity" cassette single and I used to listen to that tape all day long. I'm surprised that tape never broke on me. And since I mentioned it, Ralph's 'Sensitivity' could also be in the P influenced list. The Barkays started sounding very Prince influenced in the mid to late 1980s. On their 1984 album "Dangerous", they had a song called "Dance, Party, Etc.". The groove in this song sounds a lot like Prince's "D.M.S.R.".
On The Barkays' 1985 album "Banging The Walls", there are two songs that sound Prince influenced. The beginning of "Dance Your Body, Desara" sounds a lot like the beginning of Prince's "When Doves Cry". I also hear a slight trace of "Erotic City" in that song. Also on that album is "Missiles On Target". When that songs breaks down and they sing "It's atomic time...girl set your clock...in come love...that can't be stopped", they sing it in the same fashion that Prince broke it down in "Let's Work" with "Work...alright....we're gonna work all night night". Prince's 1984 B Side "Erotic City" sounds like it could have been inspired by Laid Back's 1983 release "White Horse". In 1986, the Bronner Brothers did a 12 Inch called "That's It, Don't Stop" that sounds like it was influenced by both a combination of "White Horse" and "Erotic City". Andy is a four letter word.

I don't know how I forgot about Bobby Nunn. In the late 1980s, he produced The Jets' "Rocket 2 U" which sounded very Prince influenced.
In the early 1980s, as a solo artist, Bobby Nunn sounded just like Prince with songs like "Got To Get Up On It", "Sexy Sassy", and "Private Party". On his song "She's Just A Groupie" he even made a reference to Prince in the song. Andy is a four letter word.

Bobby Nunn mentions Michael & Stevie as well.
Talkin' 'bout Michael, Keep It In The Closet has got a not so subtle Nasty Girl hint 2. Just like Hooked on U by Karyn White & I think some1 already mentioned Kelis' Milkshake. & then there's 2004 by Guy which could B referred 2 as their version of 1999.

Bernadette Cooper from Klymaxx produced a girl group in the late 1980s called Madame X. This group sounded very Vanity 6 influenced. They had tracks like "Just That Type Of Girl", "I Wonder", "I Want Your Body", "Mary Me", and "Flirt". Andy is a four letter word.

Dayum Vainandy! U bring up some real names here!
I also remember a group named TEASE, which was a sorta The Time rip off. Can't name any songs now, sorry. I think they had some Chuckii Booker involvement. Then Redd comes 2 mind, which was a Charlie Singleton Project. They released a 12" "Just Another Fool In Love" with on the B-side "Sexy Girls" if I remember correctly. Both songs sounded really Prince-like.

I love Klymaxx and Madame X! I have the Klymaxx stuff on CD now (Slap me on the one!) but I can't find Madame X anywhere. Just That Type of Girl sounds a LOT like Nasty Girl... same type of drum machine beat.
