Prince's childhood nickname:"Skipper"

Hey, im new here and i've read and heard that back in his old high school daysPrince used to be called "skipper" as his nickname. What's up with that, why'd hid his friends call him "skipper"?
-Is it cause maybe he used to skip school alot or...hell i dunno hmm

I read that on Dawnation.com about two years ago. Don't know how true it is or what the basis behind it was though. shrug

Who knows? Nicknames are like that, In one of his books his mom said it was because he was so cute. He was also teased and called Butcher Dog as he got older, supposedly because he resembled a german shepard. Good trivia for the buffs here, also, let's us know our little buddy was from humble/normal origins, not off some spaceship.

This is actually a commonly known fact, already in the books back in the 80's. I never saw the reason for the name giving.

What I do know is that in one of the recent interviews, the nick name resurfaced, it being uttered in his presence. He made a funny face at it.

Was it the Music More interview?

You'd be surprised but most of his fans don't read at all. the people on the org are an exception to that it seems.

naw, I doubt it, i've heard that the whole sissy act didn't start until he got into his career. It's possible but he wasn't that weird a guy from what i've heard, just a little quiet maybe.

I believe its true because someone who went to school with him confirmed this. She said some of the guys were mean to him because lots of girls liked him. He wasnt wierd in HS. Ppl probably assumed he was wierd because he was quiet.

I read this in the newspaper a while back --

Prince Roger Nelson was born June 7, 1958, at Mount Sinai Hospital in Minneapolis to Mattie Shaw and John Nelson. They had been in a jazz ensemble called the Prince Roger Trio. Since Mattie called her husband Prince, she dubbed her son Skipper "because he was small in size and he was just real cute _ he was a darling baby."
The Dreaming Peasant
"Penny, penny bring me luck...."

I'm just a child;
I'm so darn shy;
a knock at the door,
and I run to hide.
