Create a tight, no-singles cd of your favorites!

Another stupid yet fun challenge for what is a rainy, crappy day in Chitown...

Put together a SINGLE cd of your FAVORITE Prince songs, but with the following stipulations:

1. No more than 17 songs (in honor of "17 Days." HA HA!) on your disc...(probably couldn't fit more than this on a single disc, anyway...)

2. You MAY NOT include anything that was released as a commercial single, nor can you include a live version of something that was released or a remix or extended version of something that was released.

3. Feel free to include ANYTHING else, whether it's something available on a bootleg or something you heard Prince do at a live show. You may also include something Prince did for/with someone else, so long as it was not released as a single.

I'm working on my list right now! Given Prince's wide range of styles, I think this will say a lot about our personal tastes and the songs will reflect us a bit...have fun!

One final rule:

4. You MAY use b-sides, but keep them to a minimum, as they were technically "commercially released" with their a-sides, though not commercially played...

Thanks,

Okay...so this is totally off the top of my head and arranged chronologically...

1. D.M.S.R.
2. Computer Blue
3. 17 Days
4. The Ladder
5. Anotherloverholenyohead
6. The Ballad of Dorothy Parker
7. The Cross
8. Elephants & Flowers
9. Live 4 Love
10. Violet the Organ Grinder
11. Loose!
12. Billy Jack Bitch
13. Comeback
14. Eye Love U, But Eye Don't Trust U Anymore
15. Prettyman
16. Vavoom
17. What Do U Want Me 2 Do?

If I made a mistake and put a released song on there, was "Electric Chair" an "official release"? Because that would TOTALLY be on my list...I'd boot something else for that one...

Not bad Kacey, but Anotherloverholenyohead was a commercial release. It was the 3rd single from Parade. I have the original 12 inch remix and the original 7 inch single. A non-released song from Parade? My choice would be Girls & Boys.

Girls & Boys was a single in the U.K. There's a video for it and everything.

I knew I'd mess at least one up...thanks!

I think that means that "Electric Chair" is in, then? That's what I'm going to replace it with, if that's "legal."

Electric Chair is totally allowable...using your rules. Would it be a remix or just the song straight up? BTW...great list of songs there.

Hmm. OK. Here goes. In chronological order. But can we include B-Sides?

1) I'm Yours
2) It's Gonna Be Lonely
3) Gotta Broken Heart Again
4) Private Joy
5) Lady Cab Driver
6) International Lover
7) How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?
8) The Beautiful Ones
9) The Ladder
10) Sometimes It Snows In April
11) Power Fantastic
12) Strange Relationship
13) It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night
14) 2 Nigs United 4 West Compton
15) I No
16) Vicki Waiting
17) Still Would Stand All Time

If I can't include "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" then substitute "Play In The Sunshine".

My list is pretty boring. All I did was pick my favourite album track from each release. Couldn't decide between "Lady Cab Driver" and "International Lover". Same for "Strange Relationship" and "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night".

Here's one I burned. Actually this is my version of a compilation someone posted in a similar - but quite older - thread. My rules were: no singles, and nothing from my own "alphabet soup" and "jams of the years" discs... 2003-orgers know what I'm talking about. Anyway, here it goes:

1. Nine (Madhouse)
2. Habibi
3. My Little Pill
4. What's My Name
5. 1+1+1 Is 3
6. Scarlet Pussy
7. Superfunkycalifragisexy
8. Days Of Wild (studio '93)
9. Pheromone
10. Wasted Kisses
11. I Wonder U
12. Empty Room (studio '92)
13. Alexa De Paris
14. There Is Lonely
15. Arrogance
16. Strange But True
17. Come (The Beautiful Experience film take '94)
18. Big City (from The Good Life EP)
19. Digital Garden
20. Life Can Be So Nice
21. Beautiful Strange
22. Had U

And yes, with very little editing, it fits on a single disc. lol

Butta

"Lady Cab Driver" and "The Question Of U" sooooo belong, for real.
Didn't know others loved "Lady Cab Driver" too! That's that perfect, minimal funk.

And "1+1+1=3" is on my list, too. Haven't come up with 17 yet, though.

I'm sorry everyone but "Private Joy" was a single. It was the B Side to "Do Me, Baby".

I was going to try but there are too many import 12 Inches out there that have tracks that were never released as a single or 12 Inch here in the U.S. For instance, I have a 12 Inch import of "Little Red Corvette" that has "Automatic" and "International Lover" on the flip side.

tricky2

The "trick" is to pull songs from 1996-2002. Make this CD for yourself and you have a tight "new" prince album. There are a couple of singles in there, but only we would remember.

1. Undisputed Truth
2. Strange But True
3. 1+1+1=3
4. The One
5. Soul Sanctuary
6. Tangerine
7. Come On
8. Slave
9. Mellow
10. Everywhere
11. The Sensual Everafter
12. She Loves Me For Me
13. One Of Us
14. The Holy River
15. The Last December (much better than it's sister recording, "Gold")
16. Pretty Man
17. Don't Play Me

Trust Me - This is tight! cool
