If Prince were to do an all rock show...

He'd blow the place apart.

If there's one thing I've noticed from him this past year, it's that his strength lies in his guitar playing. I think he still has it in himself to put on a great rock show. No horns or any other bullshit of course.

I'd go with a set list like:

Let's go Crazy
I'm Yours
Witness 4 The Prosecution
Electric Chair
Zannalee
Interactive
Endorphinemachine
The Undertaker
Dolphin
The Cross
Computer Blue
Eye Like It There
319
Sister
All The Critics Love U In New York
Loose!
Live 4 Love

Chaos and Disorder
What's My Name
Darling Nikki
Joint 2 Joint
Calhoun Square
The Ride
Peach
Sign O The Times
America
Bambi
In This Bed I Scream (guitar ending)

Well yes..i think it is a very good idea to make this his next project...

he filled my stomach now with his best horns section, i mean i have seen Eric Leeds, Maceo, Candy and Greg on 1 stage....and i got an album with all piano...

now it is time to put out the rock side of P.; so get a rock album out and showcase ur skills on a rock tour with songs like:

The Ride, Honky Tonk Woman, Bambi, Zannallee, etc...

Prince, did u hear us?

That would be a dream setlist. I would have to add Whole Lotta Love (he's perfected this cover now, it's so heavy), and One Of Us.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Whole Lotta Love would be cool. Not sure about One of Us though.

I wish he would, and actually take it seriously.

I think a tour like this is long overdue.

Hot damn!! Alot of those songs were never performed at any of the DC shows I've attended over the years. Damn good pick of songs, though. nutty

My feelings are an exact match to those of EvilWhiteMale's when he says that "(Prince's) strength lies in his guitar playing."

While I'm not too agitated by the horns on his current tour (I think they achieve the desired effect of this "old school sould review" sound, it's not imperative that I hear horns....I'd rather here guitar.

At any rate, one of the big reasons why I can't seem to take a huge liking to albums like "Come" is that, despite a few guitar blasts like in "Loose!," the music veers AWAY from guitar work, and I'm always loving Prince the most when he plays the guitar.

I think when I watched the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony that first time, I damn near had an orgasm without touching myself during "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Here's a guy who doesn't even really know the original song but is SO SPIRITUALLY CONNECTED to his guitar playing that he can transcend that and just take on that song's soul, it's essence, with one of the most outrageously connected guitar solos I can remember. Prince should re-release the "Come" album with THAT guitar solo in place of the track that's currently labeled "Orgasm." As far as I'm concerned, there's a hell of a lot more pleasure in listening to THAT.

Great idea for an all-rock show, though!

How is "All the Critics Love U in New York" a rock song? It's more of a dance pop-tune.

I'm dying for an all rock tour, too! Nobody can really do a ripping rock anymore. Prince is the only one who can downright rock you out anymore and he was always the best at it anyway. We really NEED these kids to hear what honest, interplanetary rock sounds like and no one could introduce them to it the way P could. I hope he makes it his next teaching project!!!!!

I hope he hears us! It seems like a large number of us are SCREAMING out for a guitar-heavy rock album from Prince. It's been a LONG time!

C'mon, P -- you've given us enough ballads in the last 5 years to last us until the 22nd Century. wink

Add Empty Room to that too.
The guitar solo at the end of it on the O.N.A. tour was sublime

Co-sign!

But dang, leave The Ride at home just 4 ONE tour will ya Prince? If I hear that one mo' time Im gonna scream - as good as it is.

Would be cool 2 hear that intense electric version of 'Something In The Water' too, with maybe a few covers thrown in. Always thought Led Zepp's 'Rock and Roll' would be f*cking awesome!!

Have you not heard the guitar work that comes in later in the song? Bring it in a bit earlier in a subtle way and you got a very cool rock performance.

You're 100% right. While making this list I was trying to remember the name of that song, but it kept slipping. Consider that on my list as well.

I'm pretty tired of The Ride also. I Just threw it in there cuz I know a lot of people here would suggest it.

What kind of band would Prince need for a rock tour? I'm assuming he would want a different bass player. I love Rhonda but I'm not sure she is "raw" enough. And maybe a new drummer, too. Nothing against John Blackwell. This is a really crazy idea, and yes, I know it would never happen, but how about bringing Andre Cymone and Dez Dickerson back? Assuming they still have the musical chops for it. I'm sure both those cats would agree to tour with Prince again. No doubt they need the money. So who would the drummer be?

Andre and Dez would be cool. If not, how bout Flea and Dave Navarro? As far as drums go, I'd say Dave Grohl is the man for the job.

Flea, Dave Navarro and Dave Grohl? Sounds great but I can't see Prince working with established artists. Don't tell anyone but I think he may have control issues.

Regarding Dave Grohl is Prince the only person he hasn't worked with?

Probably.

The music would sound great, though you're right about Prince having control issues. How bout Tony Kanal and John 5?

I could almost see something like that happen. Not necessarily a tour but maybe a tribute to Prince. He could play with different people he's influenced. May not be as cool as a tour but at least it's something that could actually happen. Prince will be fifty in four years maybe he'll do like David Bowie and play a special concert? Of course he doesn't celebrate birthdays anymore.
