I listen to my music in iTunes when I'm at my computer, with my iPod when I'm away, and always have my full collection of music with me. I never run into the situation where I spontaneously decided I want to listen to a specific song or album and realize I didn't bring it with me. Like say you're driving along and a red corvette drives by and you want to listen to LRC. I never have to fumble with swapping CDs. It works through my car stereo, with my home stereo, when I'm exercising, etc. |

The hard-drive of the ipod is very small relative to a pc version so it should be EASIER to spin up than a cd. If they had gone down the solid state memory route, there would have been no spinning parts at all and I would guess it would require less power. The point with AA batteries is that they are easy to get, you can have rechargeable versions, you can carry some spare with you in case it dies at an inopportune moment. An mp3 player based on this would be much more flexible and you wouldn't have to buy a new one every few years if you looked after it. The fact is companies DO put in a life span limit with products otherwise they would go out of business eventually. They depend on electronics burning out and forcing you to buy a whole new one rather than making it cheap to repair is all part of the business strategy. I never said it was a conspiracy, it's just a tactic favouring the company rather than the buyer. | |

How do you quickly scroll through several thousand songs without the iPod's scroll wheel? I've looked at many of the alternative players and that problem always seems to be there. I have over 2000 songs on my iPod and can scroll through them all in a matter of just a couple of seconds on one continuos motion. The Rio Karma has a little scroll wheel on the top right corner (think mouse scroll wheel). You can roll it up and down to scroll through menu options and songs. The Karma lets you drill down by Artist, Song Title, or Album (similar to iPod I suppose?), and you can then either scroll through all songs (or artists, or albums), or first choose an alphabet letter, and view only the tracks beginning with that letter. I don't have a song count for you, but I know I have at least half (> 10GB) filled up, mostly comrpessed with Ogg Vorbis, and I don't have any problems finding the tracks I want to listen to in a reasonable amount of time. | |
