I have to disagree. Yes its in a sad state now but music goes in cycles. There have always been dry spells. Looking back we tend to forget most of the bad and see the great artist of the past and say wow those where the golded years. Also each generation has their own sound. The industry generates this purposly to satisfy the rebellousness of youth againg their parents generation. So its ony natural that once your generations music fades out, your like, what the hell is this crap? Normally I would agree with you but not in this case. This hip hop era we are living in today has dominated music for almost 15 years. Sure, back in the old days styles would change and older people were saying "what the hell is that" but the trend has not changed in nearly 15 years. Clear Channel is the one at fault. CORRECTION: Prince is not trying to save artists that don't want to be save!!! Prince want to teach them all a music history lesson. And I think it's a good idea for the time being. But he can do better. I would love to see Prince live on MTV, BET, etc. to show the youths on stage personally (Usher, 50 Cent, Britney Spears, etc.) what REAL LIVE MUSIC is suppose to sound like in front of all their respected fans. Unless you're an electronic artist (BT, Uberzone, etc.), lap-top computer sequencers ARE NOT needed (Madonna are you listening???).

That is not racist. It's truth. Hmmm, why is it that all black artists are being screwed? Are they _that_ naive (and with all that street smarts...) It's not racist cos LittleLamb (for the most part ) is Black and me, too. And anyway stop blaming the white man for everything, sheesh. Listen to you: The state of R&B music ... is being ... destroyed by these ... white owned conglomerates ... Okay, okay, and it's the Black artists that are allowing them to do it cos these artists want to be ghetto fab. Black artists don't want much: just money and to be a ghetto superstar (I hate that term). If I were in the same room with you, oh, please! I know you'd rip me to shreds cos that's all ghetto people do. I don't know if you're ghetto or not, but you sound it. When I was at the show in New York a couple of weeks ago, Prince said in the middle of the concert much respect 2 the ROOTS. He is a big fan of them. I don't know where people get some of their info.
2nd. How in the world can any1 B mad at P 4 making a correct assumption. You all know as well as I do that most of these so called entertainers can not sing live. Why do you all have a proplem with him saying that. If anything I would think that people would B happy that he has the balls 2 bring this out in the open. 3rd. Yes he probabily does use computers while writing songs or 2 store the music, but when he gets on the stage it's all live music. If u ask some1 a question, they have the right 2 answer it. If u don't like the answer then tough.

oh shut up. kick my arse...whatever. Funny how u think I'm racist...you wouldn't say that if you knew who I was. Humph. The truth hurts, my friend. And I am talking about today's black artist who don't have a lick of talent! That's just the truth. Nowadays, if you can talk slang and shake your butt, you got an album.
I just wish there were black artists like john mayer and Fiona Apple...and not artists in the past. When I want to hear good music, I NEVER reach for a cd from a black artist of TODAY...not of yesterday (i.e. nina, stevie, etc..). "The poets are demanding their pay..."

I can barely stand Outkast. I like Dre3000 at times. I don't care for Black Eye Peas at all. I don' t even like the food version. I am not a hip hop fan at all! It is like a joke and I hate when I see boys walking around bouncing their heads to it as though it's soooo deep! Please. And to think these same boys think I'm corny for liking the music I like. In fact, THOSE VERY HIPHOP BOYS ARE CORNY TO ME! If only they knew...hip hop is going down the drain while the music I listen to will be around forever, HA HA HA! Hang on to those cds boys because afterwhile there will be no more rap! I can't wait for that day! WOO HOO! I will be celebrating! And I don't jest. "The poets are demanding their pay..."

I'm blaming the people who set the system up and who continueously screw artist black&white but especially the black pioneers! Who drew up the 1st record contract? It was'nt anybody black! Who said that the record company should own the master tapes? It was'nt anybody black! The mafia's that was controlling the music and movie industry's 2day and yesterday shonuff ain't black! So u tryin 2 tell me that the black artist get a fare shake when it comes 2 ownership? Hell no! Are u telling me that blacks and minorities share equal power in these record companies? Hell no! What the fuck do u think Little Richard had been complaining about 4 a lifetime. U need 2 read some of these blues artists books or checkout Bonnie Raitt bcuz she'll tell u how racist the Industry is. And if being GHETTO means trying 2 right what is obviously wrong then i'm DAMN GHETTO! And i know that it's not all white people. [This message was edited Sun Aug 8 7:23:52 2004 by TheDreamingPeasant] ----- I am not Ghetto and I would whip you for your coments. All black artist don't want to be ghetto superstars. However, they do want to earn a living and continue to record. If you don't dance to the tunes of the music industry and you are black you are going to find yourself without a recording contract. If you take a minute to think about it this is exactly what happen to Prince. Prince has the best solution to the problem. Black artist who want to be artist need to put out their own CD'S. Lot's of black acts sell out large size venues and are without recording contracts. They could all do what Prince is doing. The fact that he had the balls to not just talk the talk makes him genius in my eyes. The reality of the situation is Prince can talk trash about other artist because he works for himself and he does not have to fear the industry. I am pretty sure other artist would do the same thing if they were in his position You need to read a book called "Hit Men". It is all about the mob and how the controlled the music industry. There tactics minus the killing part are still being used today by the large corporations in the industry. Read it and come back and debate. .

Why can't we all just make music, no matter how, what, where, when, or why? If people dig it, cool. If not, try harder next time. Peace.
