I had known of Prince and even had a passing interest in a few of the earlier works I had heard, but nothing more serious than any other artist I heard on the radio at that time... until one time when I was a freshman in high school (God am I that old now?!) went to a dance and walked in just as the vice principal had jumped up on the DJ's platform and yanked the needle off of the turntable about 5 seconds into the chorus of "Erotic City" - that was my defining moment. I have never been a "fan" or a "fam" though, all these years I have followed his musical exploits as a "casual", picking up what I like and discarding what I don't, there is plenty in both categories. It is hard to pick an all time favorite anything the guy has been so prolific and diverse, but I would have to say my favorite period for released material would be anything from 1999 and PR era up through UTCM and SOTT, from there I lost most interest in the released material (with a couple way too rare track by track exceptions) until TRC which, while I am not a JW or even religious in general, is a great piece of work and the first sign in a long time imho that Prince is coming back around musically. Been out of the scene lately and have yet to sit down and hear Musicology, maybe I should go do that and see whether my on again off again thing with Prince is on or off again wink Regardless, I will continue to listen with interest (if not some casual delay) each time he puts something out, for as long as he is putting something out.
