Im new here. I was raised on Prince by my Dad. Everybody asks me how I even know who Prince is concerning my "young" age... but anyways...
I was wondering... since Im an idiot.... if anyone could give me alittle history on the bands Prince has been with. From Purple Rain to now. Like why did he leave The Revolution for example and get together with _____. Who exactly is Mayte? How did they meet?... Who was that lady who sang with Prince during songs like Gett Off and Diamonds and Pearls.
I know thats a really dumb question. Im sorry haha

First!

In 1983 Prince formed "The Revolution". After 1986 they disbanded and it was just "Prince" with no band name. Then in 1991 he formed "The New Power Generation". The band lineup has changed many times since then, but he has kept the same name.

That's as much as I know.

Oh, and Mayte was Prince's wife. At age 16, she sent him a video of herself dancing and he fell in love. Married her about the time she turned 18. Broke up around '98. The woman in the Gett Off video is Rosie Gaines, singer in the New Power Generation.

1981 Prince, Mark Brown bass, Bobby Z drums, Lisa Keys. Dr. Fink Keys. Dez Dickerson gutiar.

1982 the revolution is named...on the 1999 album.


1983 Prince, Mark Brown bass, Bobby Z drums, Lisa Keys. Dr. Fink Keys. Wendy gutiar.


The Revolution broke up in 1986 due mostly to the fact that Wendy and Lisa wanted to do their own thing.

1987-1988 Know known as the Lovesexy band was mostly Sheila E's old band with Sheila herself as drummer. Sheila E. Drummer, Miko Weaver gutiar, Levi S. jr. Bass, Bonnie B. Organ. Dr. Fink the only org. Revolution member on keys. Alantia Bliss and Eric Leeds on horns. Cat as a dancer. Oh and two other guys as "dancers" but noboy knows what they really did.

1990 Nude tour. Rosie Gains on organ, Miko gutiar, Levi Bass, Michale Bland drums and Dr. Fink keys. Dr. Finks last tour.

Rosie Gains is the one that sings on Diamonds and Pearls. Awsome voice!

1992 Sunny T. on Bass, Tommy B. on keys. Levi gutiar. Rosie Gains organ, Michael B drums. (and some rappers)

1993-1995 Sunny T. on Bass, Tommy B. on keys. and Michael B drums and joins later...Morris Heys organ.


1995 NPG trio Sunny T. on Bass, Michael B drums and the artist.

1996 Mike Scott on gutiar, Rhonda Smith bass, Kat D. gutiar, Morris Heys keys/organ,

2001 ONA tour Renato Neto keys, John Blackwell drums, Rhonda S. bass, Greg boyer, Maceo Parker, Candy D. Horns.

2004 Musicology. Renato Neto keys, John Blackwell drums, Rhonda S. bass, Greg boyer, Maceo Parker, Candy D. Horns, Chance Howard keys, RAD keys.(Later removed).

I think and it is just my interpretation is that Purplerain his Princes Purple reign over his fans like he is the king of his purple kingdom and reigns over it.

By the way there are no stupid questions here we all needed to start somewhere and we don't mind sharing our knowledge of Prince. Some times it is hard earned and we are proud of it!
