Prince makes for a dull interview

subjects always include:

his great band
real musicianship
record companies are irrelevant
read the bible

At first it was interesting but the repetition is turning him into a boring old fart. Shock me with something new fer crissakes!

He is a man on a mission!

He the Good Man.
All others bad, unless they play instruments.

It's like the elusiveness that was once interesting is boring, like you say. It would be more shocking for him to just answer a question like a normal human being at this point. All of his answers are so vague, and he always seems to be trying to come across as cool & mysterious, that he never really says anything.

I agree. It really irritates me when he talks in circle. It would be nice if he would just give straight forward answers. I am either left looking like neutral, or confused or confuse after listening to one of his interviews.

Yeah Prince, why don't you shock us by answering questions like the rest of the civilized world.. mad giggle

Once in a while something cool will peek through, but
he has always talked shit in interviews. I remember in 1985
trying to figure out what the hell he was talking about
confuse for about half of the mtv interview.
I asked my mom if he might be on drugs and her reply was:
"No, he's just an asshole"
biggrin

You forgot the "no more cursing in lyrics" topic.

If he only agress to answer questions, that will receive the same responses, then he's boring us. If it's the interviewers asking the same questions over and over again, then it's their fault.

Otherwise they need to ask him more interesting questions and he needs to provide more real answers, as opposed to someone else's pre-written answers.

I get so tired of the questions the interviewers ask him. They always ask about the name change and the fight with Warner Brothers. That is old news that has been asked in almost every interview in the last 10 years.

Now they have something new to talk about like the "Musicology" CD being included in the price of the concert ticket. Watch what I tell you, they are going to beat that dead horse to death for the next 10 years.

They need to ask some real GOOD DIRT that people don't already know.

unfortunately he won't permit that level of honesty in interviews; prince usually gives potential interviewers a list of topics which *are* and are *not* acceptable

Seems to me that's what you guys are lamenting.

Just as Musicology isn't a revelation for hardcore fans, he's not giving interviews for hardcore readers.

This whole thing is about getting a hold of the mainstream's attention - they don't know he had that purple house in Minne bulldozed, they don't know that he doesn't jump off of pianos anymore, they don't know that CJ constantly writes local gossip about him doing what she thinks makes him look bad, they don't know he's gone back to using The Almighty Hohner (until they see his latest gig), and they don't care.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Please, put that on the frontpage, somebody.

smile

It's entirely his policy to blame, only picking 'decent' interviewers, who mailed in their list of questions beforehand.
He will not allow himself to be surprised on national television. I can't watch any of that anymore, and I doubt
that a casual viewer will remember anything, apart from the fact that he really, really cleaned up his act.
