This song is about Jill Jones.

She's Always In My Hair is in the level of "Best Prince Songs". It always surprised me that it was a B-side, but I guess that makes it more special to us "true" fans.

My opinion is this: for every Prince song, there seems to be several that sound just like it. I'm not complaining - this is just his signature sound. But with SAIMH, there isn't another one like this. I think that can be said for about 2 dozen Prince songs at most.

I agree with the above posts - the 12" version of this is just AMAZING. Anybody know how to convert LP into MP3? Thanks in advance!!!

WHAT A SONG!

The first time I heard this was in a dance club. It was the first (and last, so stop yer preaching) time I tried ACID... not the software, the drug.

The song burrowed so deep into my soul that I sat there spinning around in the disco for what seemed like hours, blown away by that middle-eastern guitar riff, the swirling hi-hats, the heavier than heaven snare-hits, machine-gun bass drums...

And to TOP IT OFF, the DJ segued the ending (12-inch) with all his screaming parts into an Ofra Haza* song... I don't remember the name of it (I bought that tape too) but it just started out with some FIERCE drum machines... so there's nothing but heavy drums and Prince yelling. I thought my head was going to explode from laughing so hard.

Sigh. the good old days.

* you never heard of Ofra Haza? late 80's middle-eastern-pop legend. You know the break in "pump up the volume" with the chick singing in God-only-knows-WHAT language? That's her... it was like hindu chants over fierce funky-drummer riffs. GET OUT NOW and track down anything by this woman!!

Imho it's possibly his best B side and at the time added to the legend that you had to go out and buy all the singles and remixes cuz that stuff was even better than the tracks on the albums.

I don't think you can truly appreciate this song UNLESS you have heard the 12" version. The edited version on the HITS/B-sides does not do it justice.
I remember...(here we go) back in '85, I was 12 and already a Purplehead. I heard this song on the radio and was so excited thinking this was going to be on ATWIAD. It wasn't (to my dissapointment) but I quickly learned it was the flip side of Raspberry Beret. I rushed out to buy the 12" because I already knew the version would be longer.
I LOVE this song. I really wish the extended version was on CD. I remember a joke the dj made after playing this song. I think it was Tom Joyner who would always play Prince. He said, "So the girl was always in his hair, huh? Must be why he cut it all off!" If you remember this is the era where he went from the Purple Rain hair style to a really short look. I also love the 12" of Hello.
Note: to all the Prince newbies. Buy yourself a turntable and hunt down all the original 12" singles from Purple Rain thru Sign of the Times. Only then will you hear the true genius of Prince!

I was disappointed that this track didn't make ATWIAD. Would've blown away every other tune on that disc. Song is wierd too. I accidentally flooded the balance on my headphones to one side while listening 2 it and noticed that there are 2 vocal tracks on it, about a second apart. "Pop Life" is like this too. THE BEST way to experience Prince's studio recordings is with slight buzz and the headphones cranked up REAL loud. You'll hear stuff U never knew was in there.

Everyone else seems to have started a thread so now I guess it's my turn !

I really don't like this song that much.
I can see why he left it off Purple Rainxxx
(SORRY ATWIAD !) - it makes me want to fall asleep.

Somebody said this song was 'funky'? Blaquekinght ?
What are you thinking but each to their own - I guess
Maybe I just don't 'get' it...
Anyone care to explain it to me ??

Especially when he plays it live in that crappy medley...

Another Lonely Christmas - now there is a great song !
