Who thinks TRC is the best Prince album thus far??? With a simple "Oh Yeah!" or "Nay", just want to get a quick count on how you feel about Prince's latest masterpiece. Like wine, I think it gets better in time (and multiple hearings..) and the music that America is missing out yet needs to hear.

TRC feels like an album, compared to recent releases that just seemed to layed out in a random order, while it is alot better than the recent stuff ,if he released it just after emancipation I would have become even more concerned than I was.
From the sounds of it the piano album might just blow the rest of 'em away Enivri,

Most people have a much different perspective on Prince's greatest albums (assuming nobody considers Rave or NPS one of his greatest works), because a number of years have passed since those releases. TRC isn't even a year old yet. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

The Best? Nay. | |

The Best is probably when we take the songs that we really like from each album and put them in an order that we like.
I've skipped through songs at times on TRC to get to the ones I prefer just as I have on all his earlier albums.

I think it IS a great album but we are still listening to it , it is new and fresh , I think we can really judge it better in a few years or 10 ....
But right now most of us think it's great - when it FIRST came out most people said it is his best album - me included but now it has slipped down into the lower ranks of the top 10..

That's like asking "who thinks the new baby is your best niece/nephew thus far?".
Well, it's KINDA like asking that. Work with me here, folks.

not his best, but I agree about "Family Name". Musically, this song has everything a Prince song has to have for me:
that's one of his greatest songs for me, because it's what Prince does best, slamming Funkrock! That guitar jamming on it is great!

Definitely top five for me. Along with SOTT, it probably shows his diverse talents better than most other albums. The JW lyrics don't bother me either, as long as he doesn't hammer this home a lot on all his future albums. His recent 'conversion' seems to have focused him a lot more on his music, hence the superb quality of this on TRC.

Best Prince album???
Everyone has an opinion, and mine is that it's my favourite at the moment cuz it appears Prince IS reconnecting with what he does best. Real music, real feeling, real thought... and I dig the Bob George narrator, gives it a dark, sinister edge. He dabbles with my favourite Camille-esque vocals on the title track, and recalls a line from 'Sexuality,' which I thought was cool. Even 'Wedding Feast' (which we all love?!) is fun/ludicrous at the same time and lightens up the feel. Quality control has taken over on this record in my opinion. The tightest produced album for quite some time. The segues and interchanges ARE better than any other Prince album in my opinion.

Have never had a favourite. It depends what mood Im in as to which of Prince's records I like to listen to.
Thats the great thing about Prince, so much to choose from. A song for every stage in your life. Lewis

Top 5 you say???...Well IMHO TRC is by far the worst album he has ever released...THere is a bright side to this though..Prince is going to have to work awefully hard to create an album worse than this one....I cannot find one redeeming quality about TRC.....In other words NAY NAY NAY.. My DC Direct wishlist: 1) Bane, 2) Prof Zoom, 3) Superman Blue, 4) Kilowag, 5) Parasite

Interesting - I'm curious if you had to list his 5 worst albums what would they be? (With TRC being # 1 of the worst)

It's definately one of best. It's been a long time since I listened to one of his albums as much as I have listened to this one. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

I thought it was, but it's got too many noticeable flaws. The BOB GEORGE naration is annoying. I can't listen to it anymore. The single track indexing pisses me off even more because I can't skip the annoying BG bullshit. Then, that anoying piece of crap called "Wedding Feast" bugs me all to hell. OUtside of that disc is fine , but it's dropping like a hot stone. test

If you got the album/cd from retail it's not on a single track. Wedding Feast is supposed to be a tongue in cheek comic relief. Can't you tell? The narration voice never annoyed me, the music overshadowed it for me. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
