Why were most of P's 90's/recent albums led off w/ BALLADS???

-Pink Cashmere (Hits)
-I Hate U (Gold)
-Dinner w/ Dolores (C&D)
-Goodbye (Crystal Ball-I believe it was serviced to radio though close to no-one played it)
-Greatest Romance Ever Sold
-Betcha By Golly Wow
-Extraordinary (Vault-again serviced to radio by WB)

WHAT HAPPENED THERE???

Remember the days when u heard a brand new Prince song on the radio and u were blown away and waited day and night til they played it again so u could record it?? (way b4 downloading)

Dont know if any of the above-mentioned titles were P's suggestions...I doubt it esp. w/ the Warner titles.

As for a project as MASSIVE as Emancipation was for O)+> and EMI....why lead it off with a COVER ballad???!!!!! I think many of us here wished we were in charge of picking the singles....."Jam Of The Year", "Sex in the Summer", "In the Bed Eye Scream"...any of these would've been great!

Same for Clive Davis/Arista....GRES would've made a better second single...after something to really kick off RAVE...like "So Far, So Pleased" or "Baby Knows"....something that said "Damn Prince is back!!!" But NOOOOO...they just slid this mid-tempo in between Sisqo and Train and got LOST!

Maybe I'm just ranting for my own sake...or cuz I feel many of u feel the EXACT SAME WAY as me! Many posts here have mentioned the lackluster picks for singles in the last decade!

Just think about your initial reaction to "When Doves Cry", "Kiss", "Alphabet St.", "Gett Off", "Sign O The Times".....man! I went crazy for days after hearing those on the radio for the first time!

I work for EMI now and hope to one day be in a position to maket singles for artists...and GOD knows I'll be the BOMB!!!!!

just ventin!!!! thanx 4 listening!!!

I think this is prince biggest mistake!!

I think maybe it comes from tryng to cater to his late 30's early to mid 40's crowd..

BAD MOVE!..

Haystack

I'd always thought that, because 'The Most Beautiful Girl In The World' was such a huge hit that various people (Prince, record execs etc.) thought that they could repeat it's success.
