BTW- the Chicago show was incredible. It was electric to see Prince as a human being for the first time. He smiled and cracked jokes- that man oozes sex!
OK- now my question- what the heck does the song "7" mean. Who are the seven? Is it a spiritual song?
This has been driving me crazy.....

To be hohnerist, I mean honest (dansa don't slap me), no one's really sure what the whole Symbol album's about - I mean didn't P release the 3 Chains o' Gold video to try and clear up what all the segue's were about but just confused people further?

*clears throat* Album was confuzzling....

And Spooky, Dansa aint the only one who gonna slap U for sayin' that!

Is there a complete compilation of the videos? Whats the best one? I've seen all the Purple Rain ones and the released Musicology, but I am looking for the obscure ones.....any ideas?

Here's what I have gleened from all of the info...I may not be exactly right with all of this and certainly details are missing...but here goes...

The song itself is based off of Revelations...there are many references you can look up that match much of the song. Also that album was edited down and cut out quite a few other segues. Apparently many of the segues that were cut told the story of the Princess of Cairo or something like that. And the seven were the seven soldiers sent out to kill Prince and get the Princess back.

The segues were probably cut as they distracted from the music...and we all know how P is with the segues. I am actually torn between a long album with tons of segues ...yet we get a more "cohesive" album. Or the shorter version that really doesn't annoy with the segues yet the album is confusing.

As an album tho, I would say it's quite possibly his BEST PRODUCED album, like Lovesexy before it it is crammed full of sounds hidden in the mix ('The Max' being a very good example), and dripping with a dynamic production.

7 is the sacred number.
It represents female power, and the place from which life springs forth.
The river of blood that caries such life in the form of sacrafice, in the song
is repsonsible for 7 "enemies falling. In other words, for one life,
there must be many sacrafices.

In other words, this song is about a vagina, during menstration, giving
birth to new life. However, a renegade sperm cell must beat out
7 others to concieve this life. Thus, all other sperm cells die.

This process, known as sexual intercourse, has been the purpose for
armies going to war (mentions marching feet), has given birth to
education, and the pursuit of vitality (trying to be educated and
young, also mentioned in the song).

It's a incredible, subversive piece of work, ultimately about vaginas.

I always believed that it was drawn from Revelations King James. In reference to the end of the world. But I could be wrong. BUt it also speaks of the start of a new race in a new world...something that Prince has talked of for decades...Sexuality comes to mind with the lyrics New Breed Leaders Stand up organize.

As for his obsession with the number 7. Well I believe that steams from his his birth day being the 7th day. I to was born on the 7th day so when every I here a reference to this number through out my entire life I immediatley associate it with my Birthday, (God rested on the 7th Day etc... ).
