What is an outtake?

I am more of your straight-laced Prince fan; I pretty much listen mainly to his "official" releases and not very much aware of his bootlegs or songs he never released. The question is: what is considered an outtake, how do you become aware of these outtakes (besides the "released" Crystal Ball compilation, it seems like there's an underground thing for this that I'm missing out) and what is/are some of your favorite outtakes?

i don't mean any offense in this post - but,

it smells fishy - like someone from the Prince legal department trying to sound like a newbie so someone will help them out by poviding information on getting into the "underground" world of bottleg/unreleased Prince music.

once again, if you're for real, i don't mean offense - but how could you not know about the stuff that's out there if your on the internet - just go to a local independant record store - they usually have bootlegs.

Xenophobiac

The only thing I know about outtakes is that there will be a lot less of them around when Prince decides 2 release a second multi-disc set like "Crystal Ball"

:O

Don't worry, soultraveler, any info you give will be kept confidential wink
Just curious about how hardcore Prince fans know about these so-called outtakes that a casual Prince listener (although I'm more of an enthusiast) is not.
At least, mention some of your favorite Prince outtakes. Peace!

I totally feel your skepticism, and agree that it isn't very hard to seek out Prince outtakes. Of course, I've lived in places like New York City and Chicago in the past seven or eight years, so it's easier for me than for someone living in the middle of a cornfield or swamp; still, even when I was going to school in a tiny town in Indiana, the local hippie wrecka stow had some bootleg Prince vinyl.

As for the possibility of Prince having "moles" on the org to hunt down bootlegs, I would find it hard to believe that he and his crew wouldn't know how to track such things down. If WE can, you know HE can, no?

Anxiety, I went to a school in a tiny town in Indiana that had a local hippie wrecka stow too that sold a lot of Prince bootlegs(actually that's where I first learned of them). That school was IU - Bloomington. Et tu?

Nope. Not Bloomington. But here's a hint:

I'd rather Ball U than IU. (oh lord...)
