I think his music and his image would have spoken for themselves. Having a name like Prince certainly doesn't hurt though.

names have an incredible impact on ur destiny. whatever ur name means will contribute 2 how successfull/happy/ ect etc u r.... sometimes ur name defines u completely. If you doubt me look up the definition of ur name and tell us if it describes u as a person. (obviosly there r always exceptions 2 the rule)

I'm surprised that Zelaira is making some sense for once, so I'll join in on her thread subject. If he was just John jr. and had put out Dirty Mind, it would be one of those classic albums that everyone ignored to their shame because he wore underwear and high heels & stockings. If he were to make the same music as john as he has as Prince, he couldn't be denied the fame and recognition he has earned. But the name change stunt would have killed his career back then and I wouldn't be a member of JOHN.org or other sites. I would still be a fan, but the record collection would not be as full.

wow this is really an incredible thread. If his name were john he woud've either had to use his last name or a stage name. I think the name Prince itself gives him automatic recognizability( is that a word?). Because his name is Prince it sticks in peoples heads: unlike say John or Bob. If he were just John he probably wouldn't have had his "foot in the door" so to speak with the public. Our name is our label for the rest of of our lives and thats who we are. Wtih a more eccentric name a person would probably tend to be more eccentric. So I think part of Prince's aura is his name. Tyanks Zelaira for a really great thread.
