the VAULT- a classic album?

Frankly I love this record, I can play it all the way thru and really there's not a bad one in the bunch. I use this cd to introduce people to prince who thinks he's all about sex and craziness. This is a pretty safe record and definitely straight ahead but it's pretty damn good. My favorites are "5 Women" (joe cocker does a pretty good version too) and of course "When the Lights Go Down"

DMSR I dig the Vault too.

Have u noticed when "5 Women" starts it sounds like the Cd skips?

Is it just me or did he intentially do it that way?

peace!

I Love this album - I don't understand why he gave these GREAT songs to WEArners as a throwaway album though ?
some of them are so great !

Anxiety

I like this compilation a lot, but I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with labelling it as a "classic". As a whole, it's a pretty disjointed mish-mash slapped together under less than optimal circumstances. Still, the parts making up that whole are pretty exceptional, true enough.

Maybe it's classic as in, "he's in rare form on these songs - classic Prince", but not classic as in, "Sign O The Times" or "Dirty Mind" classic.

I LOVE the vault.. I wish he would do more "strip down" type songs!!..plus the style is so basic..

I know for prince he must think these are just rough cuts.. BEFORE is "over produce" it ( that my opinon) I think he sometimes gets soooo bored he over works a song..

the vault is a nice change!

now all wee need is some LIVE albums and I will be happy:)
