Although its not really like Prince to record covers, over the years he's given us quite a few cover versions of songs, be they studio recordings or live versions. Here's a question wondering what everyones favourite covers are....and, would people like to one day see a covers album, or should new prince originals always be the priority????

My personal favourite is A Case Of U. Perhaps one of the most beautiful things hes ever recorded, and completely does justice to Joni's brilliant song. A massive honourable mention must go to the Small club version of Just My Imagination (which is more of a prince guitar showcase than a pure cover), however I truly wish he'd never inflicted us with his take on Sheryl Crow's everyday Is A Winding Road.....just painful.

Years ago, Prince put out a cover of Shania Twain's "Still The One" on that NPGOnlineLTD (or whatever it was called)

I'm still wondering if it was as raw and powerful as I remember, or if I have just built that up in my own mind since as i'd only heard it a few times as a streaming audio file.

other than that, i quite like the studio take of "Purple House."

as for live, either "American Woman" with Lenny, or "Whole Lotta Love"

Basically, the only one I KIND OF like is Betcha By Golly Wow, cuz it gives you an idea what music he dug when he was a kid.

Most of the rest is fodder. Especially One Of Us and I Can't Make You Love Me.

Even though I do not like his Middle Of The Road-ing of A Case Of YOU, I am sure Joni liked it, jazzy cat she is. I always am irritated by his U and antics and the fact he just ommits more than hlaf of A Case Of You''s lyrics. Rather disrespectful in my eyes, but he probably has a reason for it.

Indeed; the best is Just My Imagination at Het Paard Van Troje (Small Club) because it is just sublime.
