The Hits 1 and The Hits 2 both on cassette in '93 when I was 14. I think I bought both the Symbol album and Diamonds and Pearls on cassette shortly thereafter, but I can't remember which came first. 7 and Cream were the songs that got me hooked in the first place. Now I can't stand Cream....

The Gold Experience was the first P album I bought on the day of release (also on cassette). I didn't upgrade to CD until December of '96 which I then promptly purchased my second copy of Emancipation....

Bought 1999 on cassette from the supermarket in 1983. I was 12 and got in big trouble for spending all my $5 pocket money on this unwholesome product while my mum wasn't watching.

I'm 28 now and the first thing I remember owning was a 45 of "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad," though I have no idea how I got it. I hope I'm remembering correctly and not making this up, but I think "Baby" was on the flip side and I loved both. My early Prince fandom is really a blur, but age 6 sounds about right.
The first P album I remember consciously buying for myself (dad owned P.R.) was ATWIAD, which I got from Sears. Then I won SOTT off the radio. Most importantly, the first music VHS I owned was the P&theR live from '85 I believe. I wore that sucker out! (Especially since my mom wouldn't let me go to the Purple Rain show in the Louisiana Superdome.)

The first album I purchased, personally... was "Purple Rain" in July of '84. Second was Parade, the day of release in March of '86, both on 12" vinyl.
My mom had 1999 (just for "Delirious"), my brother had "Around The World In A Day," and I was given the "Prince" album on cassette by a girlfriend, for my 18th birthday in Dec of '85. The beginning of my huge collection. Lovesexy Funkateer

Around the world in a day on Cassette in 85' Then I started collecting the 12" vinyls. I would buy three albums and or 12" at a time until I caught up so it's hard to remember what the second purchase was.

I bought Purple Rain on cassette in '84 (I was 13).
Not much later that same year, I stole 1999. I've since legitimately paid for a copy or two of that album in different forms, so I hope Prince forgives me. Oh, I should add... my first prince cd? Sign o' the Times, summer 1989. It was the version that came with each disc in its own separate jewelbox, packaged in a cardboard 'one-atop-the-other' sleeve, which the environmentalists called a halt to shortly thereafter. How much did I pay for this digital jem? Fifty Canadian Dollars! [This message was edited Mon Aug 2 1:12:46 2004 by eyewishuheaven]
