And dont forget Cassette...the medium of choice of teens in the 80's.
The first Prince Cassette I poped into my Walkman was 'ATWIAD'. But this is only a technicallity because it was the first 'I' bought. Both of my parents were big music buyers. The first vinyl albums I listened to was 'Controversy' folowed shortly by '1999'...both were the technical prperty of my dad (I later discovered 'For You' was also in his collection years later. My mother bought 'Purple Rain' on vinyl as well. My second Cassette was 'Parade' Both were bought the day my local record shop could actually put them on the shelf; which was my typical way of making sure i got my cassettes and later CD's ...I would be there when they opened and demand they give me a copy out of the box if thier lazy asses hadnt put them out yet. "Lovesexy" was my P first LP and I bought it the day of the release in 1988 (and on a side note it was also the first CD I ever bought six months later when I decided to begin with CDs...)
If I remember well the 2nd was "Parade"... but honestly I'm not sure.

My mom was the one who bought most of the LP's and CD's, but the first one I bought myself was the Scandalous Sex Suite cd. I was walking around Tower Records one night and I saw the cover and said, "hey, I don't have this one". I took it home, played it and loved it. I was 13 years old (1990).

the first one i actually purchased myself was purple rain, and then dirty mind the same day, sometime in early fall of 2003.

I bought 1999 about a week after the double LP was released.
Then I bought the Purple Rain LP the day it was released. Purple Rain was the first album I bought without waiting for reviews or hearing beforehand.

Although I had heard 1999, COntreversy, PUrple Rain, and Around the World in a Day (all within about a year in a half's time),
my first was PARADE, and my Second was SOTT (just after SOTT, I bought his entire back catalog (on cassette), and the SOTT video that later followed. The increadible reinvention of sound that followed Dirty Mind was astounding. I was hooked at that point. It wasn't until NPS that I stopped being so obsessive--it was at that point that I had to get a day job, and started thinking for myself instead of idolizing him. I still very much like Prince, but no longer have to buy everything he releases or every magazine that mentions him.

The first Prince album(vinyl) I bought was 1999. That was actually the first album I had ever purchased. I was so excited that I took the album to school. Then I got teased by this guy because I had just bought the album, but it had been out for months. He said, "You're just now buying that album? It's been out." Of course, I wasn't too happy about that comment.
My next Prince purchase was the PR cassette. Someone ended up stealing it. It was in my dad's car when he took it in to be repaired. When he got the car back, I discovered that someone had stolen my cassette. I was so pissed and hurt. [This message was edited Sat Jul 31 8:10:46 2004 by PurpleCharm]

My first Prince album was 1999 on cassette...followed up 3 days later by a cassette with Dirty Mind on one side and Controversy on the other. This was right when Little Red Corvette first started playing on the radio, so I was 8 years old and grooving to Head. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

First LP: 1999
First CD: Parade - I bought it a few years before I ever got a CD player. It was in the bargain bin so I couldn't resist. It was hard just having to look at it & not play it.

The first time I ever heard of Prince was "I Wanna Be Your Lover". I never got around to buying it when it was in style.
My first Prince 45 was "Uptown". I started hearing "Head" and "Partyup" on the radio and liked them. The first Prince album I bought was "Dirty Mind". This is the album that got me hooked. A couple weeks later, I bought my second Prince album, the previous album "Prince". My third Prince album was "Controversy". By this time, Prince was a major star on R&B radio so one day a local DJ played a "Prince Double-Play". He played "Controversy" and followed it by "Soft And Wet". Until then, I thought "Prince" was the first album. I went to the record store that afternoon and could not find the first album. The person working in the record store told me the album was called "For You" and to look in the cut out section. "For You" was my fourth Prince album. After that, I bought every Prince album the day of its release. Andy is a four letter word.

I would have to say that my first was the 1999 album. I believe I was 9 years old. Someone had bought it for me as a gift and since then I have never been able to get enough of P himself.

My first Prince album was Chaos And Disorder. I'm not sure exactly when I bought it. It was before Emancipation was released. I think Chaos And Disorder was released in the summer of '96? And Emancipation was released in November, I think. So I probably got it in September/October of 1996.

Whoops, I missed the second part of the question. The second Prince release I got was The Hits 1 & The Hits 2. The next non-compilation I got was Come and The Gold Experience simultaneously. I think it took about a year for me to get all of Prince's official albums.

All i remember is the fights me and my bro had over who bought which Prince album back in the 80's. Always taking my albums, I'd have to beg for them back . . . . Man, the scratches I put on his vinyl, he used to make me so mad!!!

But got no love in return? Did u understand the real meaning of love? That it just is and never yearns" ...Prince
