I think PR is a great album, but I don't think it's his best. Dirty Mind was more revolutionary, 1999 perfection of form, and PR although great, in many ways manifests near baroque levels of excess. Perhaps this is why I enjoyed Parade so much more, and ultimately SOTT as my favorite Prince album. Both had a refreshing reinventiveness of form, and although lushly produced in the case of Parade, somehow not the same level of overproduction as I detected in PR. In a sense, I see PR and D&P as similar efforts to explicitly woo the mainstream. Not that D&P is anywhere NEAR The album PR is, but both worked in their way, and I give him props for that, but I don't think either represent his best efforts (certainly not D&P which I truly feel is his most overrated album).

In terms of "worse song" on the album, I would have to agree with most folks here, voting for either I Would Die 4 U or Take Me with U. Although I thought it was a great little ditty, I remember being surprised at the time that I Would Die 4 U did so well on the charts instead of Baby I'm a Star which I absolutely loved. I was too young to track such things at the time, but I'm guessing this is because Baby wasn't released as a single and I Would Die 4 U was. And although I thought it was great pop song, could hardly ever bear Apollonia's screechowl vocals on Take me With You. So, that's my opinion, but of course that's all it is.

I would die 4 U is definately the WORST song, not only on PR but on his entire discography.

Baby I'm A Star is filler to the max - just a crap song - the only one i didn't like. Complete masturbation of the worst kinda (the opposite of Private Joy which rocks)

Purple Rain is an absolute masterpiece. Enough said.

I would die 4 U never moved me at all. Now the 32 min version or any extended of it for that matter mmm hmmm good stuff.

Not a big fan of the Title track...except for in concert...but it's SOOO overplayed...waiting for the retirement of that song.

Take me with you...didn't get me until much later. "you're sheer perfection" "thank U"...perfect pop song.

Still the best is Computer Blue...why doesn't he play this in concert more often I have no clue...it's one of his best.

I love the album, but its still along way down my list of favourites.

Its possibly the best, up until the End of When Doves Cry, then the last three just don't do it for me. They weaken the album as a whole.

IWD4U and baby I'm a start are filler, and Purple Rain, while good, and untimately important becasue of the nature of the film, should have been a remixed edit.

It is simply too long for a single album with the constraints of vinyl at the time.

Including Purple Rain edit and taking the live filler out would have left room for 3 tracks. One of which would need to be a party number.

We'll all have a view as to what they could/should have been. But for me, I'd like When Doves cry to have been followed by "Moonbeam Levels", "17 Days", "Purple Rain", then "Heaven" as a party piece.

Take me with U - is the weakest song but the chorus is very catchy - the album is just the bomb.

i'm going 2 sound predictable but, they all r great songs . BUT!
if i had 2 choose i'd go with "Baby i'm a star" it almost doesn't fit in2 the album.
