Whoa. What's with all of the vitriol directed at "Take Me With U"? I LOVE that song. I would probably dump "Let's Go Crazy" or "When Doves Cry" before "Take Me With U". Of course that probably has something to do with the fact that I've heard those two songs so many times. | |

Purple Rain is a very unique album for Prince...is it his best NOOOO. But what makes it unique is his agents/management, I think, told him "Hey this is your big break here...you need to tone down the sex and the cursing. So even though he got in trouble for Darling Nikki, the album as a whole is far tamer than his previous outing - 1999. Musically for it's time outstanding - the only song that fit the pop format of the 80's was take me with you. not even the hit When Doves Cry was pop style, (we all know this NO BASS yet his biggest pop single of his career). having said that if I had to pick the worst song on Purple Rain it would be a flip of the coin between Take Me With You and Baby I'm a Star. Take Me With you is an excellent song lyrically melody nice drums, but Apple core's singing shoots it all to hell. What makes it worse is that he(Prince) has had to work with lousy singing before and he either backed it himself, (The Time's first CD) or had someone who could sing come in as a cover (Jill Jones comes to mind). That's what makes it such a disappointment - which proves my other theory regarding his women - (please see other thread). Baby, I'm a Star is only good live which is funny to say considering Prince recorded this one live.
