If I could hear him sing that, my life would almost be complete. And okay, so I was kidding about "Master Of Puppets" before, but in addition to L.S.T, I think I'd like to hear him cover: "She's a Lady" (Tom Jones) "Tupelo Honey" (Van Morrison) "Sweet Emotion" (Aerosmith) [This message was edited Sat Jul 31 15:20:29 2004 by kellyann22] "We're all members of the animal kingdom

I love Burt Bacharach!!! I would love to hear him to any of his songs! Though I haven't yet heard anyone sound as excellent on a BB song as Dusty Springfield, Prince would probably give her a run for her money. "We're all members of the animal kingdom

I don't want to see him cover anyone's songs. That is what's wrong with music today...no one can do anything original of their own. If they're not sampling someone else's track for background music, they're covering someone else's song. Sure Prince did it too on "Emancipation" but hell, blame it on love and hope he doesn't make the same mistake twice.
Prince needs to stay 100% original. He's one of the ONLY ONES left. Andy is a four letter word.

The other would be if we could go back in time and have Prince and the Revolution do T-Rex's "Children of the Revolution." How 'bout the rest of you? I think he could do a jammin' remake of that "War...huh! Good God y'all -- what is it good for? Absolutely nothin'" tune (I'm forgetting everything tonight... like the name of that song!). It was called "War"......by Edwin Starr. Springsteen did a great version of that one about 20 years ago on his tour. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Let me remind all of you of a little song Prince once covered. "Everyday Is A Winding Road". I think that is proof enough that Prince should not cover any more songs! Live is a different story but studio covers are a bad idea.

Yes, I agree. Summertime, JANIS's version, is a great song. In fact, I have a list of my favorite songs and that is on there! Oh, what she did to that song! I love it so much!!! I smiled when I saw your post.
As for songs he should cover, I think the GIRL FROM IPANEMA is a lovely song. I can't concentrate when that song is playing. WHen i hear it, I feel like putting on some yellow backless dress and straw hat, so imagine what a Prince cover of that song would do for me! Also, Good Morning Little School Girl. I can see Prince singing that! ***** The sad and the lonely love the best "The poets are demanding their pay..."
"I'm a radio I'm a country station I'm a little bit corny I'm a wildwood flower..."

And oh, I forgot this one: (I like Eva Cassidy's version)
TAKE ME TO THE RIVER I don’t know why I love you like I do After all the changes you put me through Stole my money, my cigarettes (Prince would think of someting instead of cigarettes) I haven’t seen the worst of it yet I wanna know [girl], won’t you tell me Tell me how can I stay here with you Chorus: Won’t you take me to the river Wash me down Take me to the river Put my feet back on the ground I don’t know why you treat me so bad After all the good times that we’ve had You’re sixteen candles that burn on my wall Now who’s the biggest fool of us all I wanna know, won’t you tell me Tell me how can I stay here with you Chorus Hold me squeeze me love me And you can tease me Till I can’t take it no more Oh yeah yeah yeah I don’t know why I love you like I do After all the changes you put me through Love is a notion I can’t forget My sweet sixteen I would never regret (he could change this part, too) I wanna know, won’t you tell me Tell me how can I stay here with you Chorus x2 "The poets are demanding their pay..."

I know he already attempted a Sheryl Crow song but I think a cover of My favourite Mistake, Home, and Run baby run or pretty much anything by her would be cool.

Shotguuun! Shoot it 'fore they run, now Do the jerk, bay-bay Do the jerk, now. TOO FUNKY!!!!! Shotgun is by Jr. Walker and the All Stars. I'm thinking a Sam Cooke song...You Send Me or Change Gonna Come? The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Oh my word, PRINCE would make that song his -- Summertime. Can't you just hear him singing (the Janis Joplin version):
"Your daddy's riiiiiccccch and you're mama's sooo good looking baby, she's looking good now-ow-ow-ow, hush, baby, baby, baby, don't you cry. Don't you crrrrryyyyy...." Oh, he's gotta do it! And I'm sure the guitar solo would rock on that one! Another song he should cover is "A Quitter Never Wins" -- (Jonny Lang's version). I heard Prince do the blues at his concerts, so I know he'd do this one well: "I know you wanna quit baby, but a quitter never wins...." I would love to hear PRINCE sing, "Our looove is on & off again" and of course, the way PRINCE plays guitar, o-oh, that song would be, oh! The Dreaming Peasant
"Penny, penny bring me luck...." I'm just a child; I'm so darn shy; a knock at the door, and I run to hide.

These songs are great and all, and I'm sure Prince would do a lovely job on many of them...BUT.....
The song that he absolutely, without a doubt needs to cover one day is "Debra" by Beck. I love Beck and the first time I heard this song, I laughed my ass off. It's like a total Prince parody, complete with falsetto - but done in a more serious manner. I think it would be so friggin' hilarious to hear Prince cover this song. It would be the perfect way to show everyone that he has a sense of humor. " [spoken] ...just chill.... I met you at J.C. Penney I think your nametag it said Jenny I cold step to you with a fresh pack of gum somehow I knew that you were lookin for some like a fruit that's ripe for the pickin I wanna do ya like that Zankou chicken 'cause you got a thing that I'm tryin to get with that I'm tryin to get with only you.. On a more serious note I think there are loads of Beck songs Prince could do well, though the irony of Debra would be highly amusing.Beck actually dosent think its like a Prince record which is a little odd.
