What does Prince mean when he says...

that he only has 4 or 5 explicit songs in his catalogue? confuse
Is he serious? Is he talking about about just the singles that have have been released? confused

He said that in one of his recent interviews. He was speaking on the state of the music industry, with all the raunchy music being made. I was floored when he said that he only has 4 or 5 explicit songs in his catalogue. Maybe I misread what he said.

Are you sure he didn't say forty five and not 4 to 5

But then again he still has more than 45 explicit songs in his entire catalogue

I recently saw an interview in which he compared his explicit songs from back in the day to whats out there nowadays. He says that all his songs had a certain sensuality to it and that most songs on the radio now, if you strip away the music, are straight pornography!
I mean what about Darling Nikki, where's the sensuality in that one? And if you take away the music, isn't that pornography.

I said it before and i will say it again: hypocrite;
I love the guy and his music, but let's be honest, he really is a hypocrite

Well, it depends on how you define sexual relations.

Prince's expliciti songs ARE as explicit as what is out there "now". Scarlet Pussy? Head? Sister? Violet the organ Grinder?

Darling Nikki is tame compared to those songs also.

In some ways, Prince's lyrics are more explicit because they are clever and not always used for shock value. I mean, there is a difference when Ludacris says raunchy things and when Prince does. When Prince, says raunchy things he seems to believe it to his core. He's not just saying it to be nasty he is saying it to be sincere.

I am pretty sure he said 4 or 5. I am going to look for the interview to make sure.

Somebody should make a list - but 'sexually explicit' doesn't necessarily mean songs in which he uses swear words, you can swear without implying any sexual imagery.

Conversely, he still does an acoustic version of 'Little Red Corvette' which is in itself a sexual metaphor and talks about used condoms - but has no swear words...

But there's definately more than 5. Sexy MF, P Control, Head, Come, Sister, Pheromone, Gett Off, Darling Nikki to name a few....

I'm not going to turn this into a Clinton Thread but one musn't loose sight of the fact that Bill Clinton is and was a LAWYER and he knew what was going on and what they were trying to do. And according to the definition of sex that THEY SPELLED OUT as sex, which was basically penetration, no he did not have sex with her. If they included fellatio in THEIR definition of sex at the time, then yes he did. But when they defined "sex" they did not include what happened between Clinton and Lewinsky and as a lawyer he knew the importance of technicalities. So that's why he asked that question.

And as far as Prince is concerned, if he said that, he has got to be kidding me. In the eyes of a lot of consumers and fans of his, his "racy" songs at the time were a large part of his persona. One would not gain the type of reputation Prince garnered at the time because of 4 or 5 songs.

Sometimes it seems like Prince needs a reality check almost as much as Michael Jackson.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

It all depends. Some people consider a song that is sexually suggestive as being sexually explicit. It's not one and the same. I've never had the interest to count, but it's clear there are many more suggestive songs in his released catalog than there are explicit ones. But it's certainly more than 4 or 5, no doubt.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
