What would have happened if Prince's acting career had taken off?

Shoudn't we all be damn happy that Under The Cherry Moon and Graffiti Bridge were flops? What might have happened if Prince had become a successful actor? Would he have continued to record music? Or might he have devoted all of his time to acting?

I think we would have a group of Prince movies that would rival Elvis's movies.

I'd like 2 have seen it....
When I was younger I used 2 watch Purple Rain all the time..my mom would say "Quit watching it." I said "I Learn something new everytime I see it." And she had said "What? That he can't act?" And 2 this day I side with my mom..it just wasn't meant 2 be. When he acts he does it as if he knows the camera is there, he doesn't do it naturally. It's alright though...he's successful like this.

Good observation. But at least the soundtracks wouldn't be as bad as Elvis'.

First of all you presume that UTCM was a flop. It was not. It became a romantic cult favorite of even many non-prince fans. The movie was simply not received well and misunderstood critics thinking Prince was going to make Carlito's Way II instead of sappy Elvis musicals made the bad judgement call and roasted him on it. In the past years various ratings for UTCM have since gone from "Turkey" up to star star 1/2 The VHS was constantly in the Top-20 rental due to the fact that they hardly ever dared to run the movie on television which added even more to its cult draw.

Secondly we all remember well that Prince was being harshly attacked in the media for anything he did back in the late 80's. His film career DID take off with the biggest blockbuster of 1984, but he was soon hollywood poison that needed only G.Bridge to shovel dirt on top of the grave of his film career. Its a shame too because Morris Day could act. He was a natural.

I think that to be fair, Prince never showed us whether or not he could really act. He never aspired to play a character in a movie other than "Prince," and never attempted to make a movie that was anything more than an extension of the music he was making at the time. If he would have been serious about acting, he would have played a small, quirky role in a Robert Altman film, and gone from there.

We'd see a sequel called "Over the Capri Sun" where Christopher Tracy returns as a smooth-talking, funky gigolo zombie.

TurnItUp

This is just a vision, but I would have liked to seen Prince play something that nobody would expect of him. Like HBO's "The Corner". I wish he could have played the Gary character with a touch of Fran, only Fran would be his bossy older sister, not his ex-wife like on the mini-series and he would play a father just like in the mini-series, but he would have a hot-tempered daughter instead of a son like DAndre. (That is the best vision I could come up with seeing Prince as a daddy, if I could see him only play it, then maybe I could picture it.)

I would like to see him play something like that, something gritty and realistic. Something that would make go Damn! I never would have thought he could play this.

Could Prince really every play anything different than himself or one of the personas he has created thru his music? It's a tough thing to take direction from somebody else when you're the kind of person who doesn't like anybody telling ya what to do.

He would've eventually quit acting and continued with MUSIC...I think Prince might play another role again someday...but he wouldn't ever leave MUSIC...

Never thought about that before...

Imagine "Diamonds and Pearls" the feature film... maybe "Gold Experience" and "Chaos & Disorder" would've been movies as well... and "Rainbow Children" as animation... actually, Elvis had movies named after individual songs, so why not "DINNER WITH DELORES, starring Prince".

i could see him in THE MATRIX as the Merovingian.

infatuated

Just saw PM for the first time a few weeks ago and told a friend that he sure can't act, but put a guitar in his hand and he sizzles. I think the movie will always be popular just because of the music and his gorgeous self, but it was poorly directed, lame dialogue, etc. I think he might actually be better now, but won't ever happen!

Doesn't he already have a star on Hollywood Blvd? He got the star during the time Batman premiered in Hollywood. Correct me if I'm wrong
