Prince's "Purple House" version

I know that this is not new but nobody really noticed Prince's version of Jimi Hendrix "Red House" called "Purple House" released on June the 1th 2004 on: "Power Of Soul - A Tribute to Jimi Hendrx". Among others there r many artists like Lenny Kravitz, Carlos Santana, Earth, Wind & Fire, Bootsy Collins feat. George Clinton and Chaka Khan. I like "Purple House" but in my opinion it sounds similar 2 "Mary Don't You Weep". Do u know the "Purple House" version and do u like it?

It's pretty lame. He should have just given them the Rave DVD version without all the shit at the beginning.

I remember when the song was released it got pretty poor reviews from the people on this site, but the guy below me liked it so I guess it's not the worst thing he ever did.

Wrong. Again.

It's too SLICK. I like the one on the 88 Paris aftershow. Or was it 87?

Erm....

A clean blues track is a bit... erm... EW.

Blues is supposed to sound shabby and like it is straight from a smokey basement. He should have layed off the backing vox for one, they sound SLICK. In this case that is a major let down.

thumbs up! He really didn't need to record a new version...sometimes he just can't leave well enough alone.
