NORTH (outstanding)

This has to be one of Prince's most outstanding compositions and performances. It really is superb.

I am not so enthused by East, West and South, but if you include North on C-Note (exclude Empty Room as well), what a brilliant sequence.

I wish Prince would do so much more of this jazz performance, it makes Musicology look like a Brtiney effort!

I always thought North was the least interesting track on the album.

NEWS doesn't deserve to be called SNOOZE, or compared to Kenny G elevator music.

It's so much more, and in my opinion a helluva lot more interesting than Musicology. Sadly, it's not "fonkay" rolleyes enough to be given the respect it deserves. People would rather hear new Prince pretend he's old Prince.

well, it's not "fonkay" in the way most people expect prince's "fonk" to be, that is, drum machines and dripping basslines.

I love it though, I'm on your side. Course, I'm the type of guy who would consider Davis' On the Corner to be funky, so it'd be easier to convert me to begin with.

John Blackwell's playing at the start of East is incredibly funky IMO.

I agree with you in that NEWS is more interesting than Musicology though.

I think North just takes too long to get started.

I like all the others, particularly East & West.

I really have listened to NEWS less than any other Prince record. Maybe my attention span isn't what it used to be.

thumbs up! NEWS is a great Prince record.
I love at the end of EAST when it is jamming
with Eric goin off and Prince scratching the
guitar. I wish that part would just keep
on going for another few minutes!
