Dansa, lock this thread out of respect for all that is holy.

no.

p.s. "it" and "adore" both rot.

Co-sign on "It" (it doesn't rot it's just weak comapred to the others)

brick for "Adore"

I have surrended. Dispite my dislike of Slow love, the fellow squirrel has shown the way, and proved that faith in thy album is the way! biggrin

I retract my previous statements. I played the album in the car twice today. It is god. I even liked the way that "hot thing" faded out (always hated that bit....too early).

LOCK THIS THREAD!

Perhaps The Cross.. I mean it's a powerful spritual track but the drums and sitars in some parts sound kinda off key. Other than that, the album is flawless and it is Prince's crowning achievement.

I hate It's Gonna be a Beautiful Night. Just detest it. Have detested it since I was 13. We really just don't NEED Cat to rap (or whatever you call that). Really we don't.

And anyone who thinks Adore should have been replaced with Crucial smokes MORE crack than Bobby and Whitney combined. I could see replacing Slow Love with Crucial, because Crucial fits the album better, but Adore? Come on now. Y'all are killing me.

3 candidates:

It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night..... i think it's great, but it's a waste of space on that album, considering what could have been on there in its place.

Starfish & Coffee..... used to be cute. but it's just stupid now. nice tune though.

but the winner is.... IT..... it's shit. can't stand it. sorry.

"Play In The Sunshine" is the worst song on that otherwise most exceptional album...

You guys are nuts! Slow Love? It? Adore? These songs are fantastic!

Gonna Be... is easily the worst fucking song on there. It just goes on absolutely FOREVER. It's one of the most unnecessary songs Prince has ever put on an 80's album.

Ok, let me sort some stuff out:

The reason answers differ so much is that it depends on how often you listen to the album.

On a first listen I found Play in the Sunshine and Starfish and Coffee too light and poppy for my taste. I found "It" weird and repetitive, and "Strange Relationship" strangely annoying. I also thought ICNTTPOYM was overproduced. (These are my memories from '87 so they might be a bit off).

The rest of the album, blew me away, 'specially SOTT, Dorothy Parker, UGot the Look, Cross and Beautiful Night. I also got into Slow Love and Forever In My Life early on.

It took me quite a few listens to really appreciate Adore.

After a few years I went back and Play in the Sunshine and Starfish and Coffee now struck me as brilliant pop tunes that I needn't be embarrassed about admiring. Through the guitar, and the movie, I started to love ICNTTPOYM.

Over the years, and after being exposed to more live material from P, Beautiful Night's magic wore a bit thin, but traces of my original excitement always remained.

I grew to prefer "Adore" over Slow Love, and my initital enthusisasm for Forever in My life waned a little (although I still considered it for my wedding last year, but settled on Adore instead, in the end).

So I'd have to say that, over the long term, the weakest is probably "It", although it's still cleverly hypnotic and ahead of its time. As a song, "Beautiful Night" is probably weaker but the "live" performance arrangement gives it more punch,

"It" won't do a lot for me, rather dull I must say

otherwise I won't complain
Has anyone tried unplugging the United States and plugging it back in?

This is the best post on this thread and the most coherent I've seen on the org in a long time. And I agree with all the critiques...more people should have as good taste as us!

Perhaps, "Sign "O" The Times" is the best album in Prince's career, so far. Songs like the title track, "Housequake", "Starfish And Coffee", "If I Was Your Girlfriend" or "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" are outstanding. But I'm not so satisfied with "Forever In My Life". What's ur anti-favorite on this amazing double LP or double CD?

You don't even like "Forever in My Life" when it's performed live?

thank god, i though i was the only one who doesn't really care for adore! anyone else agree

Oh, I have never liked Adore! This is by far one of my favorite albums, but I never felt the love on Adore. There was a thread not too long ago about wedding songs, and everyone kept saying Adore, and I just wasn't feeling it!

BTW, I LOVE Forever in My Life. That will be MY wedding song! It is so cute and innocent!
