hey mrd.

i love it when you assume things about me, honey. smile

well, HAVE you?

dude, i am not going into detail because it won't go down well with certain folks.
lol

but it's not unreasonable to suggest that sign o the times has been playing at some point. as has every prince album at one stage or another, because music is goooood for that, IMO.

but the black album is the best. sign o the times isn't a sexy album to make out to from start to finish, for me. smile

I'm gonna take alot of heat for saying this, but the one song that I don't like is....Starfish and Coffee boxed

I understand the meaning, but to me,it just sounds silly and childish.I know many fans regard this song as a classic, but it doesn't really do much for me.

Going back into that box boxed lol

I remember playing the album the day it came out. When "It" started, I thought the beat was the most obvious rip off of When Doves Cry. But the tune was never as good.

"It" has grown on me over the years, while may favourite song on that first listen (Hot Thing) has slipped almost to the bottom in my eyes.

Buy the way, when I say bottom, its still above Slow Love, Its Gonna be a beautiful night and Play in the sunshine. smile

Nobody mentioned 'Hot Thing'?? It's dross!

I totally dislike: It, Hot Thing, Slow Love, U got the Look, Beautiful Night, The Cross & Adore.

I can't believe someone mentioned 'Forever In My Life', which is (of course IMO) one of Prince's best songs. (lyric-wise, maybe the track itself is a little too bare-bones and all.)

Oh well...

anyone who said "play in the sunshine" or "it" should be made to listen to NEWS for 24 hours straight. backwards. through cheap and painful earphones.

as for the rest of you, you ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

THERE IS NOTHING BAD ON 'SIGN'. MMM-KAY?

This is the best Prince CD ever. The only song I usually skip over is "IT". Kind of an annoying song. Other than that. Perfect!

Play in the sunshine

Yeah those 3 really don't turn me on. Not that I skip em, they just aren't my favorites.

Cuz I heard them so much....Starfish and Coffee, ICNTTPOYM, The Cross...I am not as fond of them as I was.

And you can't touch Dorothy Parker, Housequake, Strange Relationship, IIWYG, and Beautiful Night

I like all the songs, but the title track and Forever in My Life seem a bit thin in their arrangement compared to most of Prince's stuff. And Forever in my life kind of meanders about.

Also Hot thing is not the greatest song, but it sounds great.

I gotta go with "It". I also have to defend "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night" if only for use of the phrase "chicken grease". I think it's a wonderful track.

If anyone has Testament you'll how fake that cut is on SOTT. Nearly EVERYTHING was added post production. I was horrified first time i heard it. It's a totally fake live track. Sad thing is i used to love it. Downside of being a greedy bootleg enthusiast i guess. You hear some shit you'd prefer not to sometimes.

So gotta go with Beautiful Night obviously.

"...Beautiful Night" NO QUESTION ABNOUT IT!!! Doesnt work.. the whole album is a one manb show and then to stick in a live revolution track? Makes no sense. fuckin' up da flow, yo. And whoever skips "adore" is a moron. It blows away "crucial" C'mon- "If God 1
day struck me blind, your beauty I'd still c." perfection, baby.

"It" is easily the worst.

what a throwaway track. disbelief

you say that because you haven't fucked to it.

Well, neither have I.... Although, I imagine there's a certain pressure to be done by the time Starfish & Coffee starts, no.....? (Unless you're banging a close personal friend - or, indeed, your partner - who knows and understands you well enough not to be bothered by the fact that you insist on playing "la la la-la, la la la-la, la la la la-laaaaa" to get you off.....!) eek

And btw, if, in these scenarios, you start at Track 1 and yet find you're still going at it when 'It' comes on, I doff my cap..... wink

But back to the subject of the thread..... How can people go hatin' on 'Slow Love', which is one of his best ballads (great melody, great horns, adds a new dimension to his sound and colour to the album!) but praise limp, soulless pap like 'Call My Name', which is bland and lacking in imagination...? 'Hot Thing' is clearly the filler - although I've been bored of 'U Got The Look' about 10 years.... (but what the hell do I know - I used to always skip over 'The Ballad of Dorothy Parker'!!)

The song I like the least is Slow Love. A weak ballad. However.....

If I could make one change to the album, I would remove "Its Gonna be a beautiful night" and put Crystal Ball back in.

Crystal Ball is far superior, and fits far better on the album than an over-overdubbed Revolution jam.

however,
it was something attempted.

never quite figured it out until years after it's release.

another live jam constructed to be a song in the studio.

very ala 'Purple Rain' (songs from that era, ya dig)

"U Got The Look" was a standout for me the first listen.

i know, another 12-bar blues number, but, Sheena was hot in that video!!!

and without it, we would've never had "7 Minutes Mo Quake"!!!!!

Yes, but wasn't that the purpose of the track? I mean even the Transmississippi Rap was over the phone. I know "recorded live in front of X many Parisians" But still...It's not the first time (nor the last) he has done it either. For instance, U gotta Shake something is sort of the same way...somehow they even get a shake shake shake from the audience...how? Who knows...that's the brilliance of it...though my guess is perhaps from a James Brown live record or soemthing.

I normally attribute there concert songs as having lots of energy and perhaps he feels that by putting an "audience track" behind it all, that it gives it a more alive feeling...like you are there. Just part of his many tricks he does for audio effect. The song is more a jam anyway...nothing too serious.

Gatherin' up the tally, i would say that "Slow Love" was the least favorite.

He didn't write it alone, nor with The Revolution.

There's y'all's answer.
