newly circulating outtakes (1993-1994)

Following a post from Boris regarding the newly circulating "Poet99" outtakes, I thought it useful to comment on the following tracks that have recently emerged and are currently circulating among collectors:

01. "Shy #1" (4:51)
02. "Gold #1" (4:57)
03. "What's My Name" (3:09)
04. "Come #2" (4:49)
05. "Endorphin Machine" (3:51)
06. "Chaos And Disorder" (4:13)
07. "Right The Wrong" (4:42)
08: "Shy #2" (5:04)
09. "Gold #2" (7:38)

Featuring entirely different arrangements, little overdubbing and, in some cases, different lyrics, these tracks are demo-like and crystal clear.

The overall advice is "Please go find a trader near you... you won't be disappointed".

Really? eek

I need to hunt these down as soon as I get home from work tonight...

Man, how quickly The Vault has become outdated. Musicology tour, downloads, photobook, 'new' outtakes... Gotta love being a Prince fan.

Some more info I have purloined from Chas, the dude who broke the news in the first place:

"There have been a lot of outtakes lately. We got The Work 6+7 plus some fantastic clean versions of what has been available before. All really nice...but I was beginning to think that all we would be getting from now on was just better and more clean versions of songs already circulating.

But man, I was wrong. I was hit from behing with this great release of outtakes.

The ever-observant reader will now say: "So what! These are all tracks we already have. This is rehash!"

But you would be wrong in that assumption. These are actually songs in their own right. These are not merely more clean versions or just versions that differ in length a little. No no no... in most cases these are songs featuring entirely different arrangements and lyrics (well, at least added lyrics). You would love to hear these funky tracks".

"The outtakes are crystal clear, not just in sound quality but also as far as the arrangements. One thing that really surprises me is that these tracks seem to be Prince at his best - and he KNOWS it. There's not so much overdubbing as we've been getting used to so we're getting a more "direct" Prince."

"Let me comment on a few of these tracks:

Interestingly, we're getting the versions of "Come" and "Endorphin Machine" that segue together, as meant to be (does anybody dare say Glam Slam Ulysses??). And the versions here are much funkier than the released ones. Unfortunately we're not getting the track that's supposed to come next: "Space", in the slow, smooth jazzy version that should have segued from "Endorphin Machine". Unfortunately that track has been cut off.

The same goes for "Right The Wrong" which on this release JUST segues into "Acknowledge Me", also missing here.

This is in fact of more interest to the average Princephile than usual because we discover that "Endorphin Machine" is in fact a Come outtake, later used on The Gold Experience.
More interesting still is that "Acknowledge Me", which segues into "Right The Wrong", also seems to be a Come outtake to begin with, and not a The Gold Experience outtake, as noted on Crystal Ball. I'm aware of the earlier configuration of The Gold Experience that includes "Acknowledge Me", but in the light of this batch of songs, it becomes evident that this song was recorded earlier for Come.

We may be missing songs like "Race", "Loose!" and "Pheromone", but no doubt we might also be getting those at a later date.

However, none of that makes this a bad release.

I guess we have all become used to big compilations of outtakes - like The Work 1-7. But to be honest, how often do you listen to them? I can't say with honesty that I've listened to them more than once. To be fair a few compilations are stand out: "Preposition", "Dreams" and others come to mind.

But I guarantee this release will be finding its way to your CD player for a long time."

What are you talking about, selling them? Nobody said anything about that, jeesh!

This release has me rockhard in a funky place. Just even knowing it's out there makes the world a better place, you know? wink

It's really bizarre that this came out right after the thread with Boris and SciFi...or maybe this is what sparked that whole conversation in the first place....either way, I'm in!!!!!

If Prince isn't going to release it, then I'll listen to it any way I can.

So when will they able available on P2P for those of us with no possible means of obtaining them otherwise?

I almost wish these songs didn't start circulating because it breaks my heart when I can't listen to them.

I love/hate Prince bootlegs. Hate to miss out ya know?

It's one of the label's wishes not to spread them p2p.

Boris Fishpaw & Sci Film Nerd weren't the reasons why & have absolutely nothing to do with getting this released.

So let me get this straight. Its the labels wish (who don't own them) that they are not shared on P2P networks?

So they are shared otherways, but only so people can create an exclusive little club?

Isn't this what we used to do in the playground?

That doesn't stop the rest of the music in the world going on p2p, including P's released material which could be paid for in stores...

The person(s) who freed these tracks only request was not to have these tracks uploaded to filesharing programs like ABMP or the Hub thereby increasing it's trading potential. Of course this doesn't mean people will follow suit. A trading tree is already being established in Europe on another prince fan site so these tracks are getting out there . So anybody who want these tracks bad enogh can get them eventually. No exclusivity there.Just ask nicely & people should be willing to help.
