the many hairstyles of prince (from short to long, from long to short ect) I was wondering if prince ever use hair extensions. One year it would be cut short, then the next year it would be really long. If you look at the pictures from different era's, you'd see what I'm talking about. Like in 86' during parade, it's cut short. The in '88 it's really really long.
How does he grow his hair like that. Even around 81' during dirty mind it wasn't that long. But then in 82' during 1999, you have to have alot of hair to have that style. Who is his stylist as a matter of fact? | |

I've wondered that too and you brought up years when I was wondering those things. It was real short in 86, kinda long in 87 and just long in 88. He's either got great hair that grows fast or it's a weave of some kind. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that | |

I dont think theres any secret to it ,he just grows it, in a year you can have a short cropped to long hair easily and I speak from experience. Give it a go you'll see.  | |

Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...

I grew my hair out back in the 90's. It doesn't take very long to go from short to shoulder length.
From Parade to Sign 'O' The Times (1year), was more than enough time to get to that length. As long as it was during SOTT, it wouldn't take but a few months to get where it was during Lovesexy. Watch how long it was during the Dec. 31, 1987 show... a few months later he did the album cover for Lovesexy. Seems like a natural period of growth to me, I doubt he used hair extensions. Okay well that is not such a silly question..I mean for a person of color (especially african american) our hair does not grow at the same speed as say some one who is caucasian ( I aint gonna get too deep into THAT whole subject LOL). Keep in mind that this is not always the case hence the "good hair" "bad hair" labels we tend to put on one another (black folks). But it seems to me that P is on the.... ahem....and excuse me for saying it this way..... I am just trying to keep it simple here... "good hair" side of things LOL. PLUS he has a hair dresser so that his hair is kept in tip-top shape at all time. thus making it very possible for him to grow his hair to his desired length when he chooses too!! To make my point take a look at oprah's hair. yes she has had extensions, weaves and braids. but her hair grows and looks stunning all of the time! I'm not talking about hair STYLE'S I am talking about the CONDITION of the hair itself!! and she herself has said that she has "bad hair" they used to call her TWA (teeny weeny afro) back in the day yet now she can acheive any hair length and style she choose because her hair is professionally cared for at all times!!! Of course he did. If you know hair at all you can tell he did during Lovesexy/GB/Nude era - they looked damn good too. But there's a stiffness that you just couldn't shake back then (weaves are better now). I'm betting he used a few in the back during Rave times too...

My hair grows super fast. I shaved it completely off once for a cancer fundraiser. In two and a half years it was at my shoulder blades.

Well first off. The man's hair does grow fast. But keep in mind we don't see him everyday. Kinda like you seeing your cousin or the like once every holiday. Each time you see him he's taller than b4. Second Prince does not have a full head of hair. Some of that would be a hair piece. He has a dramatic receding hair line, ( view the picture in the Prince.org Gallery for the cover of Damn U number either 38, 39 or 40), so he wears his hair with excessive side bangs to hide this. In addition, he also uses the black hair spray to hide this as well. This is evident in the Simulcast of Musicology, during the acoustic set, his sweat from his hair line is black like paint.

Your hair can grow around 6inches in a year so for Prince to grow long hair from Parade to Lovesexy wont have been any real sweat. As for the condition of his hair or his hair type I nothing about this,but I do know a heathy diet and lifestyle reflects in the condition of your hair and Prince appears to lead a healthy lifestyle. I would imagine any hair that is naturaly curly,afro,frizzy,wavey can easily be straightend and in a nice condition. Also I would say that growing your hair would straighten it to a degree as I have had mates etc with very tight curly hair and when they have grown it ,it has striaghtened out. I must add the Lovesexy era hair was and is my favorite it looked fantastic. | |

i have been letting my hair grow for two years now and it barely reaching shoulder lenght..and my hair not as course as prince...why is that important to know? because ethnic hair breaks...(expecially course)...no way in hell he didnt sport extensions or weaves from time to time...no big deal..... Prince never had extensions. If you have a good hair dresser that keeps your hair it grows like wild fire. Plus most of the pics from 1986 really span from 1985 when he cut it short for the filming of Cherry Moon. So in two years time, it can grow to SOTT length which was easily able to grow to Lovesexy. Hey I'm a light skin black guy with fairly wavy hair and it grows like crazy. If I decided to grow it out and relax it, in a year and a half, I can go from bald to Lovesexy lenght no problem. It all depends an the person and their hair. Everyone isn't the same. __________________________________________________

Well I am a black woman, and I am telling you that there is no way in hell your hair would be the lovesexy length in a year and a half. And that is not his hair in the lovesexy picture. Let me first say that, yes, I am lazy...second, can someone post some pics of the 2 eras in question. My weave radar has never gone off when I have seen pics of Prince. He has hair similar to mine...very, very thick and grows pretty fast.

everyone's hair grows at different speeds and lengths, and especially for African Americans, it really cannot be classified as it is or isn't. It's ridiculous to say yeah he's definitely had a weave because your own hair doesn't grow that fast. | |

I hear you, for some reason when I realized my boy was weaved up I felt strange  But everybody does it, we're just not used to men doing it. Anyway, his hair (especially in the back) is awfully thick in these. Particularly the 5th pic - you can see a difference in texture & thickness between the hair in front & how it blends w/ the hair in back. The blunt part sweeping across his neck is very weavy (thick, straight) - let's remember this was the late 80's/early 90's.
Also, if you watch Graffiti Bridge you can just tell in some scenes - there's a stiffness to it. It's alright girl, it looked good on him

I wont believe he wore extensions etc until I see concrete evidence, for the reason that I know its a peice of piss to grow your hair that length in the time spans we are talking. I mean are people even saying it aint his hair on the cover of the Prince album,because that shows he can grow long resonably straight hair and that's probablys at a time when products etc wont have been as good, so I'm pretty sure almost a decade later (Lovesexy) that with all the money he will have had he could have the relaxed curls that he did without weaves ,extensions etc. I can also understand that his hair does appear stiff around GB ,but his hair is mega straight,I mean my hair is naturally straight but if I wanted it as straight as P's on GB I'd have to get my sister to get out the ceramic hair straightners for half an hour or so, then when its that straight it does appear to have a stiffness,added to the fact he probs has some hairspray or whatever to keep it straight it would appear stiff. So there. | |
