I'll give two positive things...

1) I only had to buy this tripe once.

2) The power was out in my neighborhood for three damn days when this CD came out in '98. At the time, I was pissed I had to wait (no CD player in my car...no discman...and I was too embarrassed of the cover to bring it to a friend's place!). But now I can appreciate those last three days of pre-NPS silence and innocence.

No spankings deserved here, my friend. NPS is weak, weak shit.

"Come on horns freak on"

The crazy music behind the chorus of Mad Sex

The end of When U love Somebody

Come On

The One

Hearing "freaks on this side" which seemed like he had just made up at an Oakland concert I was at (though I realize that was probably calculated).

New Power Soul Highpoints:

"I got the butter for yo' muffin honey - I'm just too old to hold the knife!"

Great line.

The Brixton Academy gig I went to. Purple Rain guitar solo, on top of the piano, six feet away.
Truly fantastic.

Always liked Come on (apart from the cheesy keyboards, would be much better with real horns), & I always thought The One was pretty good too. smile
I've never been one for this thing obsession...

New Power Soul is a great album. It gets knocked around so much, just like another one of my fav P albums, Chaos and Disorder. (yes I said P, not NPG or o(+>...we all know its P!!!)

If I had to pick one of the most stand out moments on the cd, it would be a tie between the freaky bassline backed by freaky horns on "Freaks on this Side"...(I like where the P's vocal distortions through the verse that says. "God is love, love is God simple and plain") and also the beautiful combo of Rhondas fretless bass and the plucking harp backed by the Claire Fischer orchestra on "The One".

BinaryJustin

I've said it before and I'll say it again - its the Black Album of the 90s.

I'd put the following albums in the same bag...

Controversy
Batman
The Black Album
Newpower Soul

They all have a specific pallette which they paint from.

Newpower Soul is a great album. Its the last real "Prince" album before he got caught up in the Jehovah's Witness's ideology.

Oh, THAT'S what he said?

The whole album is listenable. I like all of it. Hey come on you guys, it's no Graffiti Bridge.
I can't even bring myself to listen to that one yet.

There's 2 decent tracks on there: MadSex and The One. Otherwise, it's the worst album he's ever made. disbelief

Come On : excellent track with funny lyrics
The One : smooth , fine ballad
But the most positive thing you can say about it is it doesnt contain Life O The Party neutral
Check out Chocadelica , updated with Lotusflow3r and MPLSound album lyrics April 2nd 2009 :
