One thing I've noticed lately is that I almost always dislike every Prince album when I hear it for the first few times. However something compels me to listen to it again and after a week or two I think it's amazing. It's something odd I've only noticed with Prince's music, that it takes some effort to fully appreciate. Other great pop music, like the Beatles, is great when you first hear it and is equally great when you hear it from then on, without requiring repeated listens. I think maybe one reason is that Prince is such a bizarre (not in a bad way) person that it takes a lot of effort to understand where his head is at.
