This is my favourite spiritual song by Prince. Vocally he's great on it and the guitar solo? Wow, it's crunching! I remember that it charted moderately on the UK charts, i always hated the single edit for cutting off the guitar solo, It's a classic. I think it could've hit #1 in it's complete form.

I've seen the RRHOF, and I know for a fact, he didn't name check Jesus, unless it was under his breathe.

This song is a serious contender for best song ever, for me.
The singing is great, the guitar is great, and above all, the message

That is correct, but I know where you're coming from as well. I know exactly who is most high and who sacrificed for the sin of the world. I just have enough respect not to call him by any other name than the one we do not know, which is in harmony with 1 Corinthians 13:12.

It's a Beautiful song and very Heartfelt. Makes me Cry cause it conveys such Heartfelt SENTIMENT!

It's very pretty but I think that bit in the middle about monogamy takes away from it. Sounds silly and doesn't flow too well with th rest of the lyrics, thematically. IMHO.

where's that poster who always talks about vaginas when you need 'em? Seriously, I remember hearing about how the execs at EMI were blown away when he came in and played this song on a guitar and stood on the conference table or something...

maybe that oversell is the reason I kinda just went "eh" when I heard it...to me, it suffers the same fate as the rest of emancipation...tryingtooharditis.

A really good song. A diamond in the 3 CD rough that is Emancipation.

To me this song is about a man who thinks about his responsabilities and only wants to be with the one... beautiful right? Well, it made me think again about my life. That's how powerfull song is to me....

The guitar solo is sublime, although it does suffer slightly for the emanciaptiobn-esque production. Doesnt detract from its overall beauty though.

Holy River is currently my favorite song of all time. I still get goose bumps every time I listen to it. There are seven different people in my acquaintence that bought their 1st Prince album after I played HR for them. But it's not a radio friendly song, so saying it would be a hit, much less #1 song is a streatch.
