PATTI SMITH's cover of "WHEN DOVES CRY" I heard it like 20 times today and now I can safetly say that I LOVE IT!!!!!
Patti has always had the gift of making songs her own.....she succeeds with WDC. HOWEVER...if she did a total acoustic version of it...(just her and guitar)...it would have been AMAZING But anyway...I loved it and thats THAT!!!! Y'all should get her LANDS 1975-2002 release out TODAY!! (err.....yesterday)....Patti proves why she belongs in the group of punk-pioneers!!!!! SHE WAS THE HIGH-PRIESTESS!!!!! "Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine....." Every minute of last night is on my face today....

I read in a magazine yesterday that she covered "WDC" & I was really surprised. Don't know too much about her except that she's a highly respected artist & I look forward to hearing her version.

I got the Patti Smith anthology, and I'm digging on it big-time.
I'm not really crazy about the cover of "When Doves Cry" - it's not bad, and you can tell it's done with love and respect, but it's just kinda...adequate. Not great, but nothing near the depths of horribleness found on that "Party o' the Times" tribute comp (SHIVERS). I suggest getting the Patti anthology though. If a cover of "When Doves Cry" is what it takes to turn a few folks on to her who have never experienced her music, then I say right on.

Yes...glad 2 see some of Y'all dig her....
LANDS is great place to start in discovering this truly ORIGINAL artist who always had something to say..... Patti Smith has BALLS....and U can truly hear it in songs like "Babeologe" and "Rock n Roll Nigger"..... No one like her..... Yet....Ani Difranco does have a little Patti in her...and that is just fine..... "Jesus died for somebodys sins but not mine...." Every minute of last night is on my face today....
