Prince and Chevrolet I was looking through an old Ebony magazine from 2002 today and I saw a Corvette ad that had a woman getting into a red corvette and it had this caption:
Little Red Corvette Baby you're much 2 fast (yes, you are) - At the bottom of the ad there was a mention of it being courtesy of Controversy Music. So it appears that P was endorsing the Corvette. I also recall seeing a tv commercial once that played LRC and there was a man at a piano, but they never actually showed his face, so the assumption is that it was P. I think it was a commercial celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 'vette. Does anyone else remember this commercial and has P endorsment any other products?

We had a huge billboard sign of that in front of the entrance to the Tampa International Airport for an entire season. I was suprised by it myself.

They showed his face in the commerical I saw. It was the piano footage from the SOTT movie but the guy at the end of the clip shown from behind wasn't Prince. Chevrolet is his only commericial endorsement but he let Coke sponsor a tour and a couple of other commerical type activities.

Piince loves Chevy's. He has a '93 Astro Minivan that he uses on the weekends. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Warner Bros. owns the tune, "Little Red Corvette."
I'm sure they're the ones who gave Chevrolet permission to use it. Prince may have received a check in the mail from Chevy for being the song-writer, but I'm sure the WB milked this one for all it's worth. Same thing when Target used Tina Turner to sing "Baby I'm A Star" for their commercials. Lovesexy Funkateer

I just remember not being able to tell if it was actually him..Thanks

I don't think WB owns the rights too that.

I don't think anyone, even Prince, owns any kind of rights to the "symbol."
This is just my opinion, but as many jabs as Prince takes at WB in the press... I think this was their way of taking a jab at him. They didn't even use the proper respect to credit the song to it's original writer, they put the symbol that he doesn't even use as his name anymore. Lovesexy Funkateer

Think about it... Prince doesn't own his masters from his days at WB. So if the WB wanted to flood different commercials with Prince music, they have all rights to do so.
Prince couldn't do a thing about it. It's almost like rubbing his nose in the fact that they can do whatever they want, with his music. Lovesexy Funkateer

I hoped like HELL that WB sold the rights to it, and not Prince. I'm not a fan of product placements. If you're a struggling artist, sure. But Prince hasn't been struggling for a long, long time. Any1 know if it was a Warner deal or if Prince decided to temporarily sell his soul? Luv & Peace, Alex Clubbin' in Mpls/A Night w. Prince

Prince couldn't do a thing about it. It's almost like rubbing his nose in the fact that they can do whatever they want, with his music. That is interesting! I thought when those great old songs became subject to ridicule on commercials (Who's that Lady/ Isley Bro -- shampoo commercial comes to mind), it was because the writer stopped renewing the copyright and the song would default to public domain. It is actually the person who owns the masters, (usually the record company) that has the power??? WOW!!! no wonder Prince was so determined to get his masters back. I would hate to see any of his great, thought-provoking songs be used to hawk Timex watches or something. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

u mean this image? This was snapped on the I-75 freeway in Oakland County in Detroit near 14 Mile back in 2002.
The 777 Update Crew sent out some information in the fall of 2002 on this. You can read up on the Chevrolet billboard and ad campaign via The Detroit Crawl's 777 Update Archive. I would hate to see any of his great, thought-provoking songs be used to hawk Timex watches or something. So that would explain why Paul McCartney was pissed at Michael Jackson for letting Nike use one of the Beatle's songs on a commercial, I think it was Imagine. Michael owns the masters to the Beatle collection so he was the one with the right to allow the use of the song in that commercial.

The ad I saw had a woman getting into the Corvette. I live in Metro Detroit and probably passed by that ad many times but never paid any attention to it. Thanks for posting..

That's depressing as hell. I've been hiding myself from the truth for a long time (I'm still hoping you're wrong). LRC is 2 magic a song 2 be used in a bunch of corporate ads. There goes a lot of treasured memories related 2 the song that I had. Luv & Peace, Alex Clubbin' in Mpls/A Night w. Prince
