Gold Experience Promo Copy, ATWIAD ? Hi, I bought the gold Experience used at amoeba music in berkeley. i was really excited until i got home and took of the "used copy" sticker off the liner notes booklet cover. apparently, thye had used the sticker to cover the ingrained in gold letters taht said
"promotional use only. sale or other transfer is prohibited. must be returned on command of recording company" what the hell is that? i paid 10 dollars for the cd, and now i have a promo copy. is that a really bad thing? or a good thing? i want to collect all the official studio P releases, does this help me? also, i saw ATWIAD, but ina cardboard box, boxset size cd case in the used section. should i just get that or a normal version where the cd case isn't the size of two cds (long vertically)? thanks, any helpful info is appreciated, i don't know if i should drive an hour back to berkeley to get a replacement for a non promo copy and/or to get that weird version of atwiad.

the gold experience promo is identical in everyway except the cover have the gold print on it
its just a stamp the record company puts on a normal copy to send out to radio etc as for the atwiad i think what your'e describing is a long box version which again is identical to a normal release in the box will be the cd & booklet in a standard jewel case they did this in america in the eighty's i think he might have better luck if he was drummin with his Dick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ATWIAD that you have is pretty rare to find now (first pressing only), as they didn't stand the test of time. Hang onto it. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

hey thanks guys, the info is much appreciated.
that just means i need to go back to berkeley really soon to buy that copy of atwiad. but should i return my promo copy of the gold experience to get a normal one, or just keep it? is it less valuable? it kinda pisses me off how they put a sticker over it.

The Promo Only version of any CD is much more rare than the regular consumer product, as it was released on a limited basis to DJs and journalists. Although they are rarer, they are not usually worth more or less than the regular version. Some collectors do seek the gold-stamp promos out, though. Another FYI: Some promos are edited and the cuss words are taken out, so buyer beware if this is not what you want. In Holland (late 80's) ATWIAD was released as a special-price-cd in a simple cardboard-sleeve ... not a copy of the vinyl-sleeve, which is a sort of "double-album-sleeve", but a "single-album-sleeve". No Lyrics and little artwork. It was priced: ..... 5 guilders, which is about 2 dollars! Also, in Germany ATWIAD is released in 1988 as a limited-edition gold-disc (The "newspaper" BILD sponsered that edition).
