Live Aid coming to DVD (4 The Tears In Your Eyes)

The most legendary rock spectacle of all time, Live Aid defined a decade, raised millions for famine relief and turned Bob Geldolf into saint. Now, almost twenty years after the historic live event in 1985, Warner Home Video has announced that they will release the entire concert on November 2nd.

The unforgettable global event, staged in London and Philadelphia on Saturday, July 13, 1985, was watched on television by over 1.5 billion people around the world. Featuring performances by Prince, U2, Sting, David Bowie, Madonna, Queen, Duran Duran, Neil Young, Sade, The Cars, Bryan Ferry, Simple Minds, The Pretenders, Elvis Costello and more, Warner has scoured the vaults and will remaster the event in its original 4:3 full screen and Dolby Digital 5.1 from the best-quality materials available. Also to be included on this four-disc set are additional performances from other parts of the globe, as well as the documentary "Food, Trucks & Rock 'n' Roll."

Retail price has not yet been announced, but stay tuned for further details.

Wonderfull! I love that clip from that day when I saw it. My videotape already began to get fuzzy because of the many time I played it. I even liked that version better that the studio version!!!

Still I think it was a wise decision not to perform but send in this beautiful song/clip....

Neither has the inclusion of the "4 The Tears In Your Eyes" clip, so why put it in the Prince forum?

yes it has.

Since July 13, 1985 the concert footage has remained locked away, and has never been shown in full since. Now the Band Aid Trust has gained permission from all of the artists to release a definitive four-disc Live Aid DVD set.

P.S. It will be released internationally by Warner Vision International on November 1.

Speaking about the concert Bob Geldof said: "Twenty years ago they not only played 'real good for free' they took an issue that was nowhere on the agenda of the political world and placed it at the very top.

“They also kept, directly or indirectly, millions of people alive and in so doing they reminded 1.5 billion people that individuals are not powerless in the face of monstrous human tragedy.

“By buying the Live Aid DVD that day continues far off into some distant but hopefully better future for all those people in whose name those great artists played".

Since the concert the Band Aid Trust in the UK alone has raised over $50 million and continues to operate in famine affected countries in Africa.

As far as I am aware, the dvd due for release is of footage from the Live Aid concert in 1984/5 (can't rember exactly, I were but a wee nipper) I think '4 The Tears In Your Eyes' was included in the USA for Africa ('We are the World etc') not for Live/Band Aid ('Feed the World/Do they know it's Christmas')... I could be wrong..

Prince sent a Black & white video of the song -- it was played during the concert.

there are multiple articles about the dvd release online.

apparently you missed this little tidbit as well, this time coming from warner vision international:

"Since July 13, 1985 the concert footage has remained locked away, and has never been shown in full since. Now the Band Aid Trust has gained permission from all of the artists to release a definitive four-disc Live Aid DVD set."

do you really think Prince would be the only one to keep this from being complete when the proceeds are going to charity? rolleyes

The song is called "Real Good for Free" it's about a street musician, I believe, who played that way, as opposed to "really mediocre for big corporate bucks."

I know it from the Miles of Aisles album

yes, the original is on LADIES OF THE CANYON.

i like it. Joni even admits that she only plays:

if you have the money
or if you're a friend to me
but the one man band
by the quick lunch stand
he was playing real good for free

Status Quo did a great job, but nothing compared to U2. In fact U2 not only stole the show, they made the leap from rising progressive band to mainstream superstars in one performance. Absolutely brilliant, they captured Wembley and the world with a stunning surprise coup.

Yes. You knew after that performance that U2 were going to be huge. But it was also a sort of swan song for Queen. There were a lot of great bands(The Who, Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, etc...) but U2 and Queen really stood out.

surely Queen won the day? U2 were good...but Queen were simply sensational.

Plus, i suspect agreement from all 'artists' appearing will have meant those who played live on the day - so let's not count our chickens that the 'Tears' clip will be included...
